Gert, what a heart warming love poem. How sad tho, that he is to lose his love, and yet, how magnificent that he would give his life for her.

John I'm glad you loved the poem, I imagined my 89 yr old parents, 62 yrs married and never apart. How difficult it will be for one of them. Thanks for the review. Carol

This was a very moving piece. There is much depth in this as I let the words take me into such a love for a moment. This to me speaks of a deep and long love that has survived many storms. A wonderful write. Nicely done :)

Ah, so much said in so few words. It makes me think of the nursing home in our area. I visit there sometimes and I also work at a hospital. This scene is played out so often in those settings. Good poetry, well written.

I think that is the essence of love, I liked this short poem. The kind of short poem you read, and then sigh. Simple, to the point, It made me think of my grandparents, and the day my grandmother died. The only time I saw my grandfather cry... though it's bitter sweet, as I also fondly remember that was also the day explained when he died, he wanted us to have him cremated and to sprinkle him on grandma. I'm not so sure grandma would approve, she used to yell at him he was a crazy old man sometimes.

Very beautiful and so touching. Loved the picture you chose to go with it.
A lifetime shared,
His last breath he would give,
Holding hands,
Praying she might live.
Best wishes in the contest with this fine entry.

The depth of the love expressed here
is infathomable. Such sadness of the end
of a life, yet joy in the love it expressed
until the end. You've done a wonderful
job with this piece. Good luck in the
contest! Carolyn

The bond of a true love and friendship is always cherished, and in your poem you've beautifully captured the essence of that bond.

This poem was based on my elderly parents who have been married 62 years and never apart. I can't imagine what will happen when one of them dies. Thanks again Carol
