This is a good tradition to honor. It says much of her personality and that of your grandfather and parents that the tradition stuck. Well written, write on.

My grandparents were too poor and my mom's dad died long before I was born, but this write is reminiscent of holiday dinners. Nice memories. joan marie

Thank you joan. Yes, my grandparents didn't have a whole lot. Times were really tough back then. I can remember when they finally got indoor plumbing. The one thing they did have was lots of love and sharing what they had. I appreciate your comments and review very much.

I remember those days. So much has been lost the past couple of generations. The modern conveniences, the many ways to spend our time. Then being too tired for traditional things. Excellent write. Also I love Loyd's artwork. Good luck in the contest.

That's so true Jean. We have such a faster pace today. Plus, family values have dwindled. It seems that most families don't even have meals together anymore, or they eat in front of the TV. (not disregarding myself). We do have family dinners together but we are just not as routine about it. But, one thing that I do my best to instill in my children are good moral values, which is one of the most important things my grandmother taught me.
Your comments and review are much appreciated.

BellaSpirit,

Your free verse expression of your 'Grandmother's Sunday Tradition' flows well as you remember her looks, love for family, and ability to care for her loved ones.

The sestet structure is most pleasing and makes for smooth flow from line to line and stanza to stanza. Well done and good luck in the contest.

Thanks so much Tim. My grandmother did leave quite a legacy for herself. She is a hard act to follow.

Hi Bella...this is a lovely poem. Oddly enough I am in the process of writing a poem about my grandmother and so much of what you have penned speaks of her. The picture you chose is lovely and serves to enhance your well chosen words. Every child needs a grandmother just like yours....well done. Good luck in the contest....blessings...chey

Thank you chey. My grandmother left a hard act to follow. It always seemed to me that she had such a strict routine of doing things. She taught me so many things, from cooking from scratch to sewing and canning food from my garden, which are the basics of survival. Today, we take short cuts because of our fast pace. But, those memories are instilled in me and I do my best to pass them on to my children and grandchildren. I'm glad you enjoyed this and I will look forward to reading your poem about your grandmother. Your comments and reviews are always welcome.

Your grandmother will be smiling down on you with this lovely poem of yours. What a tribute you have given her!

It is unfortunate how in this fast pace world of ours we seem to be losing many of those family traditions.

Very nicely done!

Why thank you so much Begin Again, for your lovely words and review. And, you are so right...our lives are so much more fast paced. We do have family dinners and time but not as often. But, the sad thing is; there are many children who have no idea what good moral values are.
Thanks again, your reviews and comments are always welcome.
