Funny--I just wrote in my review of your piece on saying NO how convenient it was that I don't drive! This funny-not funny adventure proves my point. Great closer!

Thank you again. I'm glad you seeing my attempt at humor in these pieces. A lot of time had to pass before I saw they as funny.

Excellent story.
Good thing it wasn't me. I'd've killed somebody.
"In addition my three kids and me," - You might want to put 'to' between 'addition' and 'me'.
Best wishes. Glad you survived. (Hope you got rid of the van.)

Thank you, Wayne. Yes we did get rid of the van. I didn't volunteer for any more field trips.

A very interesting story. I have a 13yr old son. I don't like to volunteer for kids' activities. I hate camping and thankfully so does my son. Very well written. I was with you every step of the way.

Thank you for the review and comments. You're lucky your son doesn't care for camping since you don't either.

Oh my goodness. I remember the stories you told about having to be chaperone for these camps that your children were on. Such an ordeal! But you told it in a humorous way plus added the suspense about the almost-ticket that you got. Whew!

Thank you Helen, I'm glad you recognized that I was trying to put a humorous spin on this story. It was so funny at the time but it one of the stories I like to tell when I'm in a group reminiscing about the past.

I've had similar experiences, I've not always carried my licence, but they have easy ways to find out these days, but normally all we had to do was produce it in 24 hours, perhaps my age prevents them from pulling me over. Beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy
Typo : Who else is (in) this van?

Thanks for the review and comments Roy. Age doesn't impress the cops around here but I've not been stopped for speeding in a while.

You did a great job telling this story, Beth. The details are awesome.
I could see everything as I read. It was really strange for them to ask
you to go on that trip when you were 7 months pregnant. I like the
way you wrote about not caring for camping etc. All in all though,
you did the best anyone could have asked for. I'm glad the teenager
had a license. Wow, 40 miles passed before you caught up with that
group.
Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you Jan. I appreciate the review and comments. It was a pastor that needed me to drive when I was pregnant. His wife was pregnant too and he had her driving another car. At least he took a camper so we got to sleep in in at night instead of on the ground.

My goodness, I can't believe you would be asked to go camping with a bunch if kids when you were seven months pregnant! I expected that to be the biggest part of this story. But driving in the rain in the middle of the night, trying to keep up with speeding vehicles would have done me in for sure. I'm happy to hear the police officer let you off. I assume you caught up with the others so you knew where to go? Well written.

Thank Judy. It was a pastor that insisted I drive a van full of kids when I was pregnant. His wife was pregnant too so he didn't let her off the hook either. We did get to sleep in his camper rather than in a tent. I caught up with the other cars at a service station 40 miles down the road.

Taletelling of your steps in living is true and realistically expressed the state of affairs as a parent working as volunteer when you have three young teenagers, being a reluctant parent volunteers on a field trip; unexpected but compulsory; life is stranger than fiction; well said, well done; post god speed more; positively encouraging editing, negatively not wording, forgiving errors of theist-good authors-writers. I completely understand as a mother of four boys. I didn't get stuck with the camping; my husband was more than eager to do that. They all played sports and were all good enough they played on traveling teams. You already know who got to drive. LOL Thank you for sharing. Sorry, I didn't read it the first time around.
Shining a light in my face, the patrolman seemed satisfied that I looked harmless. (omit 'that')
It didn't take me long to realize that in the pre-dawn hours while changing purses, (omit 'that')
If it turns out that you don't have that license, I don't want to know about it. (omit 'that')

Thank you Barbara. As soon as my kids got a little older, we got rid of the van, and I quit feeling guilty for not volunteering.
