Although I'm not Catholic, my hometown was 80%, so the ritual was spoken of, debated, skipped, then often, as in your poem, deleted from the believer's life. No, I am not Catholic, but I lived an envious life, wishing for the cleanness my Catholic friends so easily appropriated. Artwork and color presentation work all to the good. Suggestions? Corrections? You've got to be kidding! later and God bless, shy

Comment from Adam Smith
It used to be so easy, and yet it is apparently so hard. I think youth is the answer. Not to mention the likelihood that there was a parent or two to help us "remember." When our faith is in our own hands, we fail (or so I do). I respect those who can manage their faith along with the other aspects of modern living: they choose shortcuts in otehr areas, but refuse to compromise on faith. They're a lucky few. This was an interesting piece and a different perspective and caused me to think about how things were for me as a child, going to catechism, and how life is today... and what's really changed within me that makes me different. Thanks for the introspective. Adam

Oh my goodness! I feel such pain and sadness in your words, and a measure of emptiness...I understand what you are saying--Life sometimes just gets more and more complicated as time goes by. Things that seemed so simple, like asking God to forgive our sins and moving on to enjoy a new, fresh day, sometimes eludes us. But please do not despair. God's word promises us "Though the sins of you people should prove to be as scarlet, they will be made white, just like snow, though they should be red like crimson cloth, they will become even like wool." (Isaiah 1:18). It is never too late to start a brand new day, free of the burden of guilt from yesterday's indiscretions.
Hugs,
Daizie

This poem brought to mind the first song I ever learned in church.
Jesus Loves Me
This I Know
For The Bible
Tells Me So
Pure, simple, and believable. I wasn't raised a Catholic, but I understand where you go with this. It used to be so easy. Where did all of that go?
This is a lovely, meaningful poem.

It sound glorious out loud Mrs. KT. It has a nice flow and ebb to it and the words read well. The colour is pleasant on the eyes also. The picture is interesting as well. I like the way it is so forthright yet deep.

Oh, Mrs. KT. This nearly brought tears to my eyes. It is so well written, so well received, and so well remembered.
This is one of my favourite poems that I have read in a long time. I will place it in my bookcase, or print it and put it in my collection of favourites. Bless you and remember, it is still easy. Just now we have bigger problems to deal with than we were when we were children. Just remember that God forgives us even if we don't forgive ourselves.

Wow, this is beautiful, well written, and carries such an important message. Many of us (me!) would do well to remember the faith we had as a child. It's easy to become tainted and uncaring as we grow older. I really enjoyed reading this. Karen

It would be so nice if it were that easy. I wasn't raised a Catholic, and I'm not an Pentecostal, so I never had easy solutions. Your words move along perfectly. Your poem does read better aloud. Best. Ray.
