My impression when I read this is one of faith and love to an old friend. The second friend is that long suffereing friend is eithere in a bout of depression or very ill.
The word you write show the pain felt by both oon the sides of this chasm - the writer trying to reach out and the other friend not responding.
The writer can only persevere that their attention and lve will pierce this veil

i think both but not physically...we all get down and lose ourselves in the world and sometimes its just a hand reaching out with love that can pull us up...i hope this helps my friend...yours, diana

When we lose our way, it can seem as if our whole world is doomed to be forever cast in shades of gray. Sometimes it takes a welcoming hand and a leap of faith to find our way out of the darkness.
