I like this tanka, with its theme of simple times and peace on Earth. Excellent imagery and perfect syllabic count. All the best in winning the contest. Verna

Basic survival needs--yes, we have so much more than what we 'need' now. It was indeed a simpler time when the only things available were the necessities, now we are inundated with too many 'wants'.
A nice tanka, perfect form.
Good luck in the contest.

A most poetic tanka. Food for thought, going way back to organisms, a time when engagement was for survival pure and simple, not war for power or wealth. Deeper meaning to this than meets the eye. What a tanka should do. Illuminate. Great job.

You've definitely given me food for thought, shelley kaye. Did they inhabit the earth in peace or was it a survival of the fittest? I don't know, I wasn't there. Your well chosen words sure put some visions in my mind, though. Good job.

Shelley, good to-the-point tanka with a nice tone. The only change I would make is that "survival needs" might flow better than "needs survival."
Good luck in the contest.

Creative approach and picture. Organisms that we cannot see, yet evidence of something made by humans existing in your photo.

This was a perfectly written tanka format poem with an exact syllable count. Perfect picture and color scheme choice for the poetry content.
