This is an excellent story. "It was just a candy bar" that became a tragic event. The flowof the story is well done. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

My take is that Marcus paid a high price for daring Jason to steal the candybar in the irat place, and Jason too will always have that- what if I'd said no- haunting him. Well written Carol, about decisions kids make without thinking of consequences. Cheers

Carol,

This was a great poem. The reader can feel the emotions oozing off the page. If Marcus would have stayed outside he would have been okay.

Well done my friend

Cecilia

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can be fatal when living in America where the gun rules the towns and cities Carol. This is a terrifying incident that we see too often in the news. A well written and entertaining story, love Dolly x x x

I hope that it helps the younger generation to see and understand that the smallest wrong can end up to be something entirely bigger. I appreciate the thoughts and the review.

Often in life our split-second decisions carry much larger consequences down the road. A yes or a no, sometimes would better off left as a maybe and unacted upon. :-) Thanks for sharing.

Yes, there have been many a time that I asked myself why I said YES... a few changed my life forever.

Wow! I am sure this story will make any children pause before being tempted to shoplift for fun out of boredom! Kinda sad but so is life. Very well paced. I really enjoy it!

That would be my hope...Too often these days the young believe they have all the answers and also that bad things can't happen to them. It only takes a moment to change their lives forever. Thank you so much.

That's a strong message about having the courage to say no when one knows that someone is applying pressure to do wrong. Marcus (and Jason also) paid a high price for their bad choices.

This is an engaging story that you already know isn't going to turn out the way the boys think it will. However, two adult robbers bursting into the store was not expected, and one of the boys being shot was devastating. This is the perfect story for young pre-teens who think they are smart enough to defy established principles.

I hope that if one youngster reads the story and it stops them from making a wrong decision, it will have accomplished something great. Thank you for reading and commenting.

This is a good story, and Jason's note to the reader is a great idea. Perhaps the story will save a kid's life, or at least save the child from doing stupid things that he or she will regret later. Blessings. Carol

If a youngster or anyone reds my story and it makes them stop and think and reconsider what they were about to do, I would be thrilled. Young people always think things won't happen to them but then it does.

Yes, kids always think they are invincible, and nothing bad could happen to them...until it does.

Well, I can't say that I enjoyed reading the story but you made it really true to life and that's scary! We oldies know not to do stupid things our friends suggest but young ones are easily influenced.
Great writing about an awful event!

this, Marcus?" (question mark needed ?)

The contest said write something that would terrify a young person into understanding the consequences and I hope this dreadful story would do something like that. Giving a someone a chance to think twice before doing something they shouldn't. Thanks so much, Helen.
