Wow! This is sad, lonely , but so full of hope. It sends the chills down my spine. It reminds me of hanging on when you are waiting out the mundane. Wonderful piece!

This is nicely done. I enjoyed the lovely flow. We see birds up on wires all the time, how do they manage the vibrations I wonder? How do they balance so well? I hope the weather is better where you are, He have heavy thunderstorms headed our way. Karen

Yes, Crystie, I can agree with Emily Dickinson that hope is the thing wit feathers. We all need a good portion of that these days
I really liked your free verse poem all the best of luck. Ulla xcx

I enjoyed this stanza and made me wonder what will be to see this scene for real 'This phoebe misses the warm winter

she spent in Mexico

but is poised-like hope-among

the portly pigeon matrons."

I enjoyed this piece of free verse for the contest. I honestly had no idea that a phoebe was a kind of bird, so your poem was both entertaining and informative. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Emily Dickinson is my favourite poet .Her Hope is ... is such a beautiful poem That i have never forgotten its end line.. 'never asked for a crumb'
This is a very nice poem about phoebe and how she waits chaperoned by pigeons for its mate.I liked the line ,"Huddled in a patient train of thought'

Hi Chrystie,

Hope truly is a thing with feathers. I love the inspiration I get when the birds migrate back in the summer here. You have some wonderful imagery and alliteration in this free verse poem.

Good luck in the contest!

Kim

i like this poem about birds, especially the black phoebe bird. I like the image of pigeons as matrons watching over her a much more likable image than thinking of them as the rats of the bird world!

I like this gypsy of the pigeon family. She's round and dainty, unlike the pigeons we see here. Your free verse highlights this beauty who likes especially to vacation in Mexico.
