teafor2,
It is amazing what drunk people do sometimes. Why would they mess with this poor bear and relocate him. Alcohol dulls the senses and makes the decision making process a poor judgement. At least they were caught and have to do community service.
Well done

Thanks for your thoughtful comments and personal remarks... Remember the Brits are more reserved, unlike us rude Yanks:-)
-
I don't know I find the Brits can be ruder than us Yanks. Just saying.
-
I spent four straight years in close quarters with these folks of the "mother" country:-)
-
I spent 6 months with them and from what I could tell they all have a great sense of humor if not a little twisted at times.
-
I agree with you about their sense of humor, especially when I got used to
the accent:-)

This rondelet, Pissed, has the proper formatting and tells what is probably a graphic tale of drunks let loose on an iconic stuffed bear to do we know not (but can only imagine).

Oh yes, there is a beautifully designed hero, with a very good British, accent, although there are many British accents, some with subtle differences, but still different, beautifully written, blessings Roy

At first, I was baffled by your poem but I searched the internet where I learned of the two RAF cadets who did such vandalism. Shame on them. Yes, they'll do community service a long time!
British stoics lossed by pair (lost?)

Thanks for your eagle-eye syntax catch, research, patience, review and suggestions...I can't find any reason not to change lossed to lost. Your persistence and help are appreciated...Your suggestion deserves a reviewing vote, which I don't have. Your support and encouragement are noted.

This is a very interesting and up to date subject for a poem. Paddington Bear is on at the movies in America today. I have not seen any of them, but I do know what it is though. Keep up the great work!

Your poem has a fun feel to it! I really like how you bring in Paddington Bear with a twist of British humor. When you mention the "British stoics" and "Royal Cadets" is great. The repetition of "Paddington Bear" throughout ties everything together. Keep writing with that unique style - it's very enjoyable!

Can I say, I am totally confused?
This poem, really makes no sense that I can discern.
Now poetry often does make me think, but I can usually see the rational behind the writers thoughts, this just seems to be a jumble of unconnected sentences that rhyme.
If I have missed something on the news that it relates to, then fine and may I suggest that putting that reference in the authors notes could change the entire meaning of the words.
As it is, they are nonsense and not in a good way.

Tim, thanks for your honest comments...I am really sorry for any confusion...This incident happened in England about two days ago...Some drunk Royal Air Force cadets, while drunk (pissed), defaced a historical landmark (a stuffed bear)...They were caught and had to do community service as punishment...I used the short French Form to tell the story (Rondelet). A seven line, two rhyme form to tell the story...Lines 1, 3, and 7 are repeated and are four syllables...Lines 2, 4, 5, and 6 are eight syllables...Lines 1, 3, 4 and 7 must rhyme...
Lines 2, 5 and 6 must rhyme...In my haste to write/publish this before it left my poor memory, I failed to put important information in author's notes...Purely my fault...I apologize...Also the stuffed bear's name is "Paddington Bear."
Comment from Karen Cherry
Good story, but, it does not flow well. The first thing I was taught was to say the poem out loud four or five times to hear how it meshes. When you leave out connecting words the sentence is stymied. Try this or something like it:
Paddington Bear
British public robbed by a pair
Paddington Bear
RAF engineers too blotto to care
Paddington Bear
They broke the statue in two I swear
Paddington Bear
Hefty fine to fix but fair
Paddington Bear
Never take a drunken dare!
Paddington Bear
MOP- my opinion only. Fix your poem a bit and I will up it to a 5 Karen

Karen, thanks for your thoughtful review and kind suggestions, but without seeming to defend the write, it is a formal genre...French Rondelet: seven lines, two rhymes...Lines 1, 3, and 7 are four syllables and repeated...Lines 2, 4, 5, and 6 are eight syllables, Line
3 and 4 must rhyme...Lines 2, 5, and 6 must rhyme...There's no need to change your rating, I am grateful for your reading and response. teafor2
-
Once again, I would have not put my big fat foot in it if you had put the name and instructions in the authors notes. I liked reading up on the news item so I could write the poem. And I am sorry I was dense. Karen
-
I stick by word about needing connecting words, so it is still a four, even if I was a bit dim about the poetry style. Karen
-
Karen, I totally agree with your assessment and decision...I am completely at fault and think you are more than generous with your response and rating. teafor2

I'm definitely going to have to Google News on Mr. Paddington to see what is going on because he is a favorite of mine and it won't do for people to be messing with him. Thanks for sharing

Paddington Bear is a traditional and well thought of icon in Britain and we often have fun with him, in fact the late Queen took tea with him one Christmas, a fun post, love Dolly x x x
