I liked the first ending best. The love of adventure and learning is passed down from Granny to young Franny. This grandma really has a lot to teach her granddaughter!
I found this sentence odd for dialogue because it's much more narration:
"The pages fluttered, and my eyes widened in disbelief."

Dear Carol, what a truly imaginative and inventive write! I'm pretty sure you could go on to write half a dozen more possible endings. I like them both but the second one has more excitement and I'm left in limbo, wanting to know who this other character is. In the build-up to the story, when Gram was referring to being told to go to the study to dust the books, I was reminded of many famous writers who found sanctuary as a child in their father's library and then went on to do great things themselves. Yours is a fairy story that could fit into any age. In short, timeless! Well done, Carol! Debbie

I think I love the first alternative, only because I'm an incurable romantic at heart, the thought of an unhappy ending to this fabulous story is unthinkable Carol, but you are a fountain of unending stories, well done, blessings Roy

I like the way Gram gets Franny interested in reading books. I prefer the first ending for children; the second is a bit scary, but leaves it open for an adventure to come. Perhaps a child would write his or her own adventure. Blessings. Carol

This was a really interesting story with two very different endings, one light and sweet, the other dark, scary, and somewhat open ended. Gram did a good job of making the book sound very interesting, enough that Franny was willing to read other books after she checked on Gram's special book. This is an adventure a boy as well as a girl would enjoy.

So clever, Carol! You certainly have a wonderful imagination, and your stories are a delight. I did prefer the first ending, but only because the second ending wasn't complete - but I am sure one of your futurestories will pick up th thread - and that tactic will make even the most reluctant of readers want to keep reading!

Oh dear is right. The wisdom of Grandmothers is unmatched. I'm sure it will be alright.
Fantastic piece. Just fantastic. You are a talent.
Sorry I have been tied up. Wife was out of state and I had three kids to handle. Wee hoo! (It was fun!)

Carol,
This is a wonderful story. I like ending 1 better. It is a happier story than ending 2. If you immerse in make believe it has to have a happy ending.
Well done
Cecilia

What a great next installment to your book. I believe children would very much like the book. I love the recurring theme of books being magical. They truly are. I loved the first ending to the book. You must write a chapter a day, or is the book already written and you post a chapter at a time? I'm trying to write a chapter a day on my novel and have been succeeding but my chapters are very short. Great read.

uhoh I have to go with ending one because ending two is just too scary! lol If these stories don't get kids reading books, I don't know what will. Great job on another one, Carol!
