Hi Karen,
This is a nice free verse ode to your grandmother, Gertrude. I like her style in teaching you strength and independence. I also like her way of doing Alzheimer's. I bet it made it easier on her. I am sorry she and your family had to deal with this disease.
Congrats on placing third in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Enjoy your weekend

You had a wonderful grandmother who undoubtably instilled your spirit of fun and adventure in you. Where did she get an all white puzzle? And how did you have the determination to solve it? She was right about never letting you win.

-A good image and nice presentation, Karen.
-You wrote a very good poem for your grandmother,
and I think she would be pleased.
-Your admiration of her intellect comes through, and
you must have been influenced by the books
she and your mother read since you read them at age 8.
That is pretty impressive.
-Gertrude also sounds like a woman ahead of her time.
-I'm sorry she had Alzheimer's, but as you said,
she did it her way.
-A good entry for the contest; good luck!!

She was definitely one of a kind. I loved her. I am odd too. I do multiple Triva games, srables, text twists. hangmand, and category matches every day to map out more memory lines. Merriam webster dictionary, Dictionary. com, trivia plaza , among others are free and fun to use. I finally finished my biography. Just posted. Love to you and yours. karen

It's always nice to read about those special people in our lives that helped to make us who we have become. For better or worse, they've left something memorable that has been or will be passed on to the person or people of our choice. An old black man named Herb Patton made the biggest impression on me. He was smart, a gentleman, and a caring soul who lived every day trying to be the best person he could be. I can't say I've ever matched his attributes, but I hope I've accumulated a few of his finer traits. He was the perfect mentor and example. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for the read and nice thoughts. I miss Karenia don't you. I write her in email, but, it ain't the same. She is tending her hubby. Karen
-
I miss her whenever I don't see her name pop up. She's a fine person with a huge heart. I had no idea her husband was is bad shape. Hugs, Ric.
-
Yep, that was one of the reasons for her to leave. The other was Rachel .It kept making her mad whenever Rachal would pull a stunt and never get sanctioned. It ate at her. I can send her my stuff whenever she wants to read something. Am I nice or what?
Karen
-
I told you from the beginning that Rachel is a mean person. But she's the best at buttering people up and hiding behind the scenes of what she creates. I say that, and I don't know her, or have never had any dealings with her. But that's because I watched in the wings and saw enough to avoid her. LOL.

Wow! An excellent tribute in a poem about your grandmother and a race car driver no less. That is so interesting Karen. I really enjoyed reading about her! A powerful woman it seems. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the fread/ She was not really a spy or a race car driver. And that is not her picture. When she got dementia she told us all these stories. Of course they could have been true I suppose. But, That is definitely not here picture, But it was as close as I could come to a resemblance. Karen

Well, it was a great story anyways!

This is a fascinating story about a grandmother who was a cut above the rest in her fierce independence. The lessons of struggling to win are a great example of tough love. Neat recollection.

I wish I had a six, even if tragic you still managed to make laugh when I read this:"When she got Alzheimer's , she did it her way,
She became a race car driver who was a spy.
She told me a few stories when I visited her."

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner here, folks. Wow! This piece was excellent about your Grandmother, Gertrude Lora Rollings, Karen. I felt the love, brilliance, and adventure she had to offer. Is that a photo of her, and did she really drive race cars?
God bless,
Steve

Nope not her. And she was not that I know of a spy or a race car driver. As I recall she drove kinda pokey.
But her stories were exciting. Thanks for the six and the read. Karen
