Behind and wishing I could catch up but that doesn't make me like your writing any less. I got back from Vegas after six weeks, and then I've spend the next two in the hospital. I guess I must have overdone it a bit. LOL. I still won't be reading much for the next couple weeks, doctor's orders. But I'll do my best to keep up. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry to hear about your hospital stay, Ric. Hope everything's okay. Rotten way to come back from a vacation!

No worries about keeping up. If you'd ever like a synopsis of what you've missed, I'd be happy to provide it. An alternative is to just read the chapter recaps of the previous chapter in each chapter. They are generally pretty complete.

I think I'm current at 35 and I plan to try to read all the rest. I'm an old guy who hates to miss things. :-) I just noticed a reply from you that asked if I won or lost. As with any gambler, which I'm really not, there are good days and bad days. But over the weeks, months, and years, I win much more than I lose. Otherwise, I wouldn't play. :-) I'm not the degenerate gamble who just likes the thrill of gambling. It's a chore to me to play.

Good for you--both for winning more than you lose and not letting it encourage you to gamble more than is good for you for the thrills.

This was a good way to show the effects of the drug that Brian and Fran are trying to stop. You've shown how devestating it is to Cedric 's family. Well done Jim. Cheers

Thanks so much, Valda. That was the intention here--while we're waiting to find out if the mission was successful we see more proof of how important the success of it is. Hopefully, it isn't too late for Cedric's family.

Wow, another life put on hold because of a drug :"
"I'm very sorry to hear this, Cedric, and I understand now what you're going through. Whoever invented this drug and is distributing it should be shot. What a horribly devastating thing it appears to be that can so take over a person like that. Why don't we just suspend our lessons for now until things change and your family is back on its feet? Then we can resume if you feel like it. I would very much like to continue teaching you if you still have an interest." Thank you for sharing.

I felt it was important to get a few more stories out there about the devastating effects of Dipraxa while we're waiting to see if the mission to destroy it is successful. And now, it's even affecting Marie's progress of improvement since she won't be able to teach Cedric again unless it is stopped.

How sad that there is still Dipraxa available, and Cedric's mother has found it. Until it disappears, Cedric may have to suffer the consequences. Maybe Marie will mention the problem to Brian. His next project may be to cure people of bad drugs.

Let's hope Fran and Brian's mission was a success, and it will just die out on its own because it no longer works. Very interesting remark about Brian's next project. I've already given some thought to that, and I may turn this into a trilogy with another major discovery by Brian.

This is another excellent chapter. My heart goes out to Cecil and people like him.
So many people in our country do not have a safety net. I do not see any need for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Thanks so much, Lee. Yes, Cecil got caught in the crosshairs of a weak mother who was unable to resist trying a new drug and the power of that drug that makes it irresistible. Now he has to put aside his dreams to take care of his family. Very unfortunate situation.

Of course Marie isn't fully conversant with all that's been going on with her son-in-law. And some neat dramatic irony when she says, whoever invented the drug should be shot. I like the way you've linked Cedric (and his mother) now into the main theme of the story. The dialogue is truly excellent throughout and makes this such a compelling read. Pertinent also the way Marie compares her teaching of Cedric to that of Julia, the laughter and general bonding making the difference. Jim, this is worthy of a six and I'm afraid it has to be a virtual one. But thank you so much for another well-crafted read that I enjoyed. Warm wishes Debbie

Thanks so much, Debbie, for this wonderful review. You always pick up on the salient points like the irony of her remark about the drug, and how I've given her some firsthand experience with its devastating effects. I felt this chapter (and the next) were necessary to bring home the real importance of Fran's and Brian's mission to stop the drug.

Marie will end up playing an even more important role in the other plot (Big Pharma's resistance to Glyptophan) that will begin to take over now that the Dipraxa-stopping plot is coming to a close.

Never worry about the 6s, Debbie. These excellent and appreciative reviews mean more to me than the number of stars.

Oh boy Jim,
I wonder what's going to happen when Marie finds out that Brian came up with the formula. Hopefully things will be taken care of on that island and they can start getting a handle on the drug. Well done.
Have a blessed evening.

Good question, Tom. Will Marie revert to her old thinking about Brian, or has she learned to trust him yet? There's a lot at stake with the outcome of the mission to ruin Dipraxa, and we'll see another example of this soon.

I particularly enjoyed envisioning Marie and Cedric during Cedric's music lesson.

It reminded me of my younger days of taking piano lessons with Melvina Leshock, my piano teacher. My mother bought me a metronome for fifteen dollars at a music store in 1960. I still have it, and was surprised to know there is now a metronome app.

I now see how Marie is going to be connected in some way, or at least aware of the drug, Dip.

I enjoyed this chapter, and wonder how long Fran and Brian will have to wait to see if their mission was a success.

I'm glad you enjoyed the music lesson, Lorraine. It also made me think of clarinet lessons I had as a youth. I was more the do-what-you-can-to-stall-and-stretch-out-that-hour kind of practicer, though!

Yes, this is Marie's first connection to the larger plot, but we'll eventually see a much closer connection to it toward the end.

Ah, so the drug is affections those close to home, poor Cedric, is having to get a third job and it is affecting his practice of the violin, we see how it's coming home to roost, no wonder the illegal activities of the big pharma will affect the little people, well done, blessings Roy

Yes, it's quite a mess right now with people close to home being affected. Let's hope that mission was successful, although they won't really know for a couple of months.

I like this story and can't wait to read more. Great job.

She was talked into trying a drug called Dip by a friend who lives in our building. My mother has some history with drug abuse, but it has never affected her like this drug has. She doesn't want to do anything except to take it all day long. Once she started taking it, she never went back to her job at the library, and they eventually called and told her not to come back. (Now we get to the connection with Brian.)

Thanks so much, Barbara. I appreciate your enthusiasm for the story. This is a connection to the Big Pharma part of the story, but it will become much more direct later.
