I can really identify with your story, Barb. My wife is 79 and I am 80. My wife is in very poor health. I am okay for now. Luckily we have a son and grandsons nearby.

I completely understand. I'm sending prayers.

This touched close to home. I am in the same situation. Wanting to move and give up this big house for smaller quarters. The question is where to? We can't seem to decide. We have kids in four different states. As you say: decisions, decisions, decisions.
Good post!

This is an excellent story. I have the same concerns. Recently, our son and his family moved in with us. They want to save money to buy a house. Jena cleans and cooks. This is such a relief for us. Anything my husband would have done, our son does. The plan is for a year so we will see what happens. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Barbara,
This is a great story. You have a long lineage and hopefully you will not get sick or need assistance in the near future. You stay strong and healthy my friend.

The golden years and all the hassle and worry that come with them can leave you with more stress than when you were working. I, too, am faced with house maintenance on three houses besides my son, Johnny, and I have begun to worry about whose lap it will all fall into when something happens. I can see a dumpster outside my house and everything thrown in it because they don't want to deal with giving it away or selling it. As for Johnny, I am terrified. He has his problems, and to date, no one has stepped up to help me. Will he be left to live in a home (something I've fought since he was born)? It's scarier than any of my stories. And their answer is don't worry about it, somebody will take him. Yeah, who?

Barbara. This was a great story for one reason only if any. This is a decision we might all face as we get older. I will be 66 this year and I have already started thinking about this because I am a disabled veteran and my body has been through a lot! I liked the photo you used as well! Keep up the great writing. It will keep you young!

Thank you for the wonderful support. My husband did 23 years in the Army and is 80% disabled. Our oldest son did 26 years in after 5 deployments to Afghanistan 100% disabled. Thank you for your service.

Well, Barbara. You are so welcome. And thank you for your families service too!

Your chapter is so honest! I really enjoyed how you shared humor into such a serious topic. The little moments really brought her to life. I could sense the love and concern for both Nancy and your own journey. The family conversations added a heartfelt touch. This was a thoughtful read - well done!

Much of what you mentioned hit home to me like a bomb. I don't get any exercise. I do not drink enough water, I do not take my daily medications daily, I suffer from lymphedema, and many other ailments. I am now 82 years old. Since my wife's death a few months ago, I have let many things slip. Fortunately I have my adult daughter and my adult grand daughter who live with me and try their best to take care of me.

I'm thank you for your daughter and granddaughter. Please take care of yourself. I want you around for a long time. I believe our body's are a gift from God and we should take care of them.

You are right of course, I am trying to do a better job of taking care of myself.

So much to consider when the matter of aging creeps into the family conversations/considerations... A good one the presents those issues that so many have had/will have to face. Thanx for sharing! ;)

"start going to pot" ( what is pot? )
I can relate. I'm healthy and it's too early to think about assisting living, but sometimes it crosses my mind. It's a scary thought.
My exhusband divorced me on 2007, and I lived alone for ten years. It was lonely. All my children lived faraway for me, but in the same state. They visited me but if something happened I was alone to deal with it until my daughter came over to check on me.
Now I live with my youngest daughter. I moved in on 2018 to care for my infant grandson. I'm very grateful. I'm happy and grateful.
I wish you health and prosperity.
