Hello dovemarie
Your story tugged at my heart
My husband was a civil rights worker, working for Dr. King in the summer of 1965
He told me that Dr. King knew that he was going to be assassinated. He just did not know when but he told my husband that then his life would not be in vain
He further told my husband that if he should die in the civil rights movement that his life will not have been in vain. Dr. King use the same terminology regarding the Birmingham girls that were killed in the church bombing.
Civil rights workers called the summer of 1965 the freedom summer and called themselves freedom fighters
Yes, the Ku Klux Klan paid a visit to the house where my husband was staying and burned a cross. They said if my husband was still there next night that they would burn down the house with everybody in it.
After that, Jesse Jackson found a new house every other night for my husband to stay at i credit, Jesse Jackson for saving my husband's life
Aside from the Ku Klux Klan white people would try to run my husband down in the crosswalk. He grew to hate white people, even though he was white.
I'm delighted that you wrote this and that I can pass on some facts based on my husband's life
Thank you
