We are pretty well off here in America, at least most of us. But even the poor among us don't compare to those as you mention. And then you see the reports of those in Sudan and other battle zones... heart-wrenching. And none of us had any say whatsoever who we were born to, it could be us born anywhere else.
Best wishes.

Wayne,
Thank you for the wonderful review. It is true, we just got lucky to have been born Americans. We as a world are falling apart.

I have been to Thailand many times playing golf, their customs and lifestyle are different than ours, and yes, the streets were unclean and somewhat scary for all, I did however find the people very friendly and helpful, all three genders, very well written, a wonderful read****kahpot

Kahpot,
Thank you for the wonderful review. The people were very nice, however some of what I saw made me sick to my stomach, even to this day.

I do understand. When I went to Tangiers Africa, they still had white slave markets. We, females, couldn't be out without escorts. Thank you for sharing.
We sat down at the bar and the next thing I know, a boy about five years old was tugging at my sleeve (you can omit 'down' it's understood.)
I want you know that this city is in the poor part of Thailand. (you can omit 'that' it's an extra word)
We boarded the aircraft the next morning and flew into Diego Garcia. (the following morning)

Just another delightful day in Thailand, huh Cecilia. I enjoyed your memories, mostly because you do a good job of connecting with my emotions. What struck me was your revulsion. I am the same way. I've travelled a little to impoverished areas and my reaction, like yours, is to get away. It's too much. It makes me feel guilty about my own life and it makes me feel insensitive to theirs. Then I don't feel good about myself. and I want to get further away.
You brought all this to mind. Nice work.

Debbie,
Thank you for the beautiful review. I appreciate it. Seeing that was hard for me to swallow. I have been to other countries that are poor, but to see these grown men walking hand in hand with their victim was sickening.
They will pay the price when they get to the pearly gates and get turned away and will live in Hell. It's suitable justiice.

The journey through Thailand is far beyond what I can even imagine. I understand all the indifference you experienced with the cultural especially the food. Through your sacrifices as a woman on the team you exemplify a power only a leader can perform.

O yes, Thailand is known for these things, child sex slaves and serving in slave like conditions, we helped out in a ministry in Cambodia to buy back children that had been sold into these conditions, it breaks one's heart, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Roy,
Thank you for the great review. It's sad that this kind of thing still goes on. This was in the early 90's and I sure it still goes on today.

I have unfortunately also seen scenes of poverty like this in Brazil and it is very sad indeed. We cannot change the world and we need to look after ourselves in these circumstances. When I first visited Spain many years ago they had very poor sanitation and I was always sick. I recently ate something bad 18 months ago and had to take probiotics for a long time to readjust my gut.
Thank you for sharing your story Cecilia, you were brave to go to these places.
Edit here:
(I want you (to) know that this city is in the poor part of Thailand).

Dolly,
Thank you for the great review. It was an eye opening experience. It's one thing to know it exists, but to see it up close and personal was eye opening.

My grandson loved Thailand but apparently didn't get into this area. That is a story I don't want to even read again. How horrible for children that there is no safety for them. We were poor when I was a child, but there was a home and food every day. That area of Thailand had to be really emotionally sickening.

Carol,
Thank you for the great review. It was horrible to see that and the children went willingly. I grew up poor also, but we always had food on the table and a roof over our head.

Hi Cecilia. What a sad story. I can't stand people who sexually abuse children. I grew up poor so I know how it feels. I'm not now. Your story is well written. It was easy to read
Great job

Brenda,
Thank you for the wonderful review. I grew up dirt poor also. I used to help out in my aunt's greenhouse and this old man cornered me in one of the storage rooms. It didn't work out so well for him, because I threw a crate and smacked him in the shins and ran out. I was like 12 at the time. I learned how to take care of myself a long time ago. This guy was a kiddie diddler.

We have a lot in common. It seems as though sexual abuse is getting worse.

It's amazing how we find out so many people on this site have a lot in common.
