I could picture the scene really well as I was reading it and I particularly loved this line: "She holds the smoke for an eternity before it billows out like smoke from a dragon's nostrils." I thought this was really engaging and I enjoyed reading it.

I had a great review all done and the crazy FS program lost it. GRRRR!
I loved the irony and contradictory image of being dragged by a 'Good Humor' truck.
Best wishes.

Congratulations on your 1000 milestone!
Gretchen , I hope you had a great new year's day.
I love this chapter. The plot thickens. I wonder what happened to thicken, why did he kill the teacher. Maybe he found out he molested Waylon... or other kid.
Excellent character development. I love the neighbor.
Well done!

Well, I enjoy your style and delivery in every chapter you write, and as I've said more times than you could possibly care to hear, I love your characters. Character you know or have known, or have made up to perfection. Now, I only wish I had one of those damn scarce sixes. Thanks for sharing.

No six necessary. Just knowing you enjoy the characters is high praise. Thank you for the encouragement. Gretchen

First, I haven't read or seen your posts in a while. Congratulations for the achievement. One thousand posts is remarkable.
How close can someone go to the dark side of their personality without losing their soul, you asked. Hopefully, to be interesting but unharmed.

Well, that's a turn-up for the book! Things weren't going famously for Miranda but this is the last thing she wants to hear. And now she's going to feel responsible, perhaps, for spreading gossip about Tomlin. As ever, Gretchen, your chapter is amusing (likening herself to roadkill) and entertaining while your dialogue is excellent with plenty of muse making a comeback! Well done! Debbie

The plot gets better and better. I really like this story. Congratulations on your 1000 milestone post.
Waylon is doing his homework and I'm paying a couple of bills when Mitch comes by. (comma after 'homework, you switched subjects)
until I close the door before he speaks. "Miranda, when was the last time you saw Dougie?" (speaks,)

Wow, now this is something, sometimes I think that men like Tomlin get what they deserve. But an interceding thought, but God really loves them and sent Jesus as their saviour, but I don't think they respond, this is almost like a frame up, well done. Great story, Blessings Roy

Maybe God uses others as the weapons to punish. Murder is always sad, though. Taking a life isn't something that should be taken lightly. Thanks for the thought provoking review. Gretchen

First off, congratulations on this terrific milestone, Gretchen. A thousand posts. Wow!
Now, you've really ramped up the action in the story with this mystery. Could Dougie really be responsible for this? Seems like maybe he's being set up and that someone is taking advantage of the bad blood between them. This will surely be tough and confusing for Waylon.
I loved this description of Dougie: "I might be safe from Dougie reading about it. I don't think he even takes time to read the menu at Burger King."
My only problem in this otherwise great chapter is your final line. I know it's tempting to say something like: "Little did I know that was the highlight of the day," but logically it doesn't work to do that. This is a present tense story being told in the present (not as a reminiscence), so she would have no way of knowing that at this point in time.

You are exactly right about the last line. Thanks for pointing this out. Glad you enjoyed this. Gretchen

Oh no! As much as I don't like Dougie, this could destroy Waylon. Dougie was the one who told Miranda about the pervert teacher, would he have killed him? What is the story behind them both, one dead and him unconcious. I don't think he killed anyone, someone else did and left Dougie unconcious. Perhaps someone who had a grudge against him and has framed him by putting the hammer in his hand? You should get Mitch to check these things out!!! LOL Gretchen, I'm back in there, fists flying! Sorry I'm out of sixes, I hope others still had some left. This was great writing, and the emotions are running high!! Happy New Year, my friend. :)) Sandra xx
