A new year fills our thoughts with possibilities as we seek opportunities. We begin each year with ambitious and lofty goals, recognizing that each new year provides a fresh start. This is especially true for writers. Best wishes in the contest.

Before you wonder, this is not tit for tat because you gave me a 6, nor is it my way of saying I'm glad you're back. I decided I was giving this a 6 the first time I read it (when you told me you'd posted it), because it simply and perfectly describes the life of a writer (and, particularly, one on FanStory, where everything does start fresh every year).
You used the 5-7-5 format to state something pithy and powerful, to which every writer can relate. And, on top of that, you even threw in a rhyme. I only give 6's to things I would not have changed at all had I been the one to write them, and this totally fit the criterion.

We all can relate to a new year. I like keeping a journal engraved with the dates of the year. We remember our past yet welcome our fresh starts. I hope each day brings you newb writing opportunities and courage to enter more and more contests.

We say new beginnings, but truck down the same old writing road. I look for words in other peoples work to inspire a story or poem. That same old road has gotten boring. Stay inspired to write fresh work. I like that you are an artist as well. That usually means a painter. A sculptor usually proclaims they are a sculptor. Good luck.

Thanks for your review. I stepped away from this site for the past year because, like you, I found much of the writing to be boringly repetitious. I am hoping inspiration has improved.
(I would have said painter if I was solely a painter, but I like to play around creatively, with photography, design, decorative arts, some 3-D work, jewellery etc. to have fun with and challenge myself creatively. How about you?

I painted one lousy still life. I painted one lousy portrait of Edgar Allen Poe. I sculpted maquettes in clay in high school. I have five good bowls and one good vase on pottery wheel. Do I like it? Yes. Good, not really.
