This poem, Depression, gives the sad feeling a voice which penetrates the readers with the dark and seemingly inescapable sense of despair and hopelessness.

My daughter has depression on and off, so I'm very familiar with it. Thank you for reading my poem.

I think you did a good job of characterizing depression.
The sarcasm and the taunting tone of the piece work well here.
Congratulations on your writing. Keep sharing!

Thanks so much for this great review.

Your poem is deeply moving. You captured depression with such raw intensity that it feels like it's speaking directly to me. The way you described its suffocating grip were both chilling and unfortunately relatable. It's a hard topic to write about, but you handled it so well. I'm so glad you shared it.

This poem points out several aspects of real depression, as it is a lonely, dark, and dreary emotion that can persist for days, months, or even years. We found out recently we have a family tendency to struggle with sleep apnea, so depression sometimes accompanies sleep deprivation that we aren't in control over. The last line of the poem (dark blanket of despair) reminded me of how one cause of depression might be sleep disturbances, and one consequence of depression might be further sleep disturbances.

You are expressing the pictures seen by many, yet unseen by most.
It is a major problem that is ignored by most governments, and mental illness is labeled as a negative aspect of a person's personality.
Many people do not believe that they are "Somebody." They are mesmerized by social standards that are not attainable because they are subjective, ever changing.
Do not give negatives recognition; they create doubts and hamper a positive outlook.
Regain control by rejecting negative assessments. You are "Somebody."

Your poem expresses the deep darkness that we find in the depths of depression. The artwork, so dark, complements your poem and brings out those dark feelings.

This is a very nicely written emotional poem for the contest and I wish you the very best in the contest. May you have a wonderful day. I have a hard time writing about my emotions. May you have a blessed new year. Patricia.

This was an unexpected choice for the "Emotions" contest. I hope this is your inner creative writer writing and not your true feelings. The Lord is always available to those who feel this way. I hope you will delight and brighten up in a win.

Thank you for reading my poem and for this thoughtful review. It's not about me, just a personification of this particular emotion. I do have a daughter who has suffered bouts of depression, so I'm familiar with it. Thanks again.

I can undertand about your daughter. My daughter has schizophrenia, but she is now doing well with medication.

I'm so sorry. My son has had schizophrenia since the age of 21..right after high school he got sick. He is also doing well on meds, though he does go into hhis own world sometimes.

You captured this dark and lonely world that some people find themselves inside and no one can get them out of it. Fortunately I have never suffered but I have witnessed others suffering, this is an intuitive and empathetic poem, love Dolly x x x
