As a child in the fifties, we never really thought of war and killings. Then cme the sixties and the threat of atomic warfare. Today, everyone knows the imminent danger of war.
Despite all this, God has been good to us and I wish you a very Merry Christmas.

Nicely done. Got the message across without becoming preachy. Keep in mind that our gun laws are, indeed, strict. They simply need to be enforced. Although the issue of mental health is far more difficult to track, and act upon, it is far more dangerous than the estimated 83 million citizens that owned guns in 2023 that caused no harm. If a criminal, or potential criminal wants a gun - they will get one, leaving the rest of us unarmed and at their mercy. No thanks.
"Lest you're impaled by fate's sharp gourd" is my only issue here. What can one be impaled by that rhymes with gourd??? Hmmm...

Your poem is deeply moving. I was struck by the powerful imagery you use to capture the devastation of war and the tragic consequences it brings.
The reference to Jesus at the end makes the poem even more powerful.

Your poem has posed a number of questions here waiting for answers that answer. I am most touched by this question, 'So how can guns protect the lost,
when death claims much and won't count cost...' Tahnks for sharing your reflections. Well done, dear Roy.

Amen! Thank you for speaking out for the innocent children who are killed all over our country. And those who protect their gun "rights" with the Second Amendment do not realize that our founding fathers never imagined automatic weapons, only muskets. And they never intended people to continue to defend themselves after official police and military forces were in place. At that time, each place had a "well ordered militia" something we don't have anymore.

I thinkbthatvthe gun violence in the US needs to be addressed on multiple points. The amount of illegal falls gun is bewildering to say the least, then of course there are the legal guns. I honestly believe we live in a "gun happy" society and this b needs to change. Thank you for sharing this concern.
