well, that sounds like you are a very wise person and a thoughtful one, and your realization of a simpler life with trust in God's grace and taking action on your beliefs sounds like a winner.
The things you mentioned as being illusions, however, sound very real and disheartening to me. Forgiving others is hard enough, but oneself, I think, would be the toughest of all.
Trusting In God's grace and the rewarding feeling of peace and joy is sought by so many. Good for you for finding it! And for telling us about it.

I should have been clearer about the degree of difficulty when it comes to forgiveness. Thank you for your insight which is not normally included in a review. -Bill

well, I usually provide mine in my understanding of posts. Thank you for your comment. I would be interested in your understanding of the degrees of forgiveness.

The way you convey hope through subtle shafts in tone is very unique and masterful...I read the words, then returned to them sometime later..they are very thought provoking.
So pleased I read it.

This free verse, A Gift to Self, makes a statement for simplicity and unity among friends so that the feet and hands can drop the jewels and grab the hands around us.

The author words are meaningful, descriptive and creative. Thank you
for the author's notes - they say it all! I pondered on the words of this
poem and thought about being thankful for all that I have, leading a
simple life as the author states and just trusting God. The color scheme
and layout of this poem was engaging to me. Great Poem!
Have a wonderful Christmas! Blessings, Maria

I am discovering that the only thing we take beyond the grave is what we have done before we get there. And collecting things is not what I want to do as I approach 80.-Bill

This is an excellent poem. I'm sure the majority of readers will connect with this in some shape or form. What you are portraying is so very true as we navigate throught life, we learn what is most important, we can get so caught up in things that are materialistic or meaningless.
Great job William I really like how you have presented this important mesage to us, good luck with the contest.
Best Wishes

Again, Nicki, I am so thankful that you would read both of these entries. This was a very difficult poem to keep together. I confess that my "wanter" continues to compete for my attention. But I'm working on it.
Thanks again, Nicki. -Bill

It seems to me that it should be a simple thing to forgive oneself instead of endless self flagellation, but somehow we figure that that's what we deserve, instead of breaking those chains that sen unbreakable but aren't, forgiving others is a condition of salvation, beautifully written Bill, blessings Roy

Pleasant reading, William. I liked how you presented the ideas in this piece - how a truer understanding of self, defined by a relationship with the Creator, brings genuine self-acceptance, peace, and restoration. Congratulations on your excellent penmanship!
