The clues come by way of adept questioning. These clues demonstrate a certain coherence. The final paragraph, however, defeats the entire build-up.
Lester killer is still a mystery until today, and an irony is that the money that was found in the bag was counterfeit. The Snow Haven lake frozen secret is a stark reminder of the darkness within someone you may know, someone in your neighborhood, or someone with whom you work. The lesson is to be careful with whom you associate.
Lester's killer is still a mystery. When the money found in the bag was found to be counterfeit, the mystery thickened. Needless to say, the killer must have thought the money was real. On the other hand, we don't know whether the killer left the money once he recognized it as counterfeit. If so, why did the killer fail to just walk away?
