Eerie, ( more than a really creepy magazine from the 60's)
piece of work. I followed your story willingly. It captured my attention from the beginning. Good work. Karen

Hi Karen
It sounds like the story truly hooked you! There's something captivating about eerie tales that keep us on the edge of our seats.
I am a big fan of Stephen King
Take care and stay safe.

And Dean R. Koontz, John Saul, and, Shirley Jackson, and Rod Serling. :-)

Oh my goodness this is a scary post as this mummified body came to life! A horror story to chill us as much as the icy scene outside, a fun post for the contest, I wish you luck, love Dolly x

Hi Dolly
Thank you for your review

This reads like the introduction to a much bigger horror story, like it sets the stage for what will come next.
I really want more details about how they "perished one by one frozen in the ice." I get it, that they were losing their minds and succumbing to the cold, but details would be exciting here.
Also, consider that "loyal assistant" is a bit of a cliche character. It might be fun to consider some different options or a different way to describe him.
Finally, at the end, you wrote, "he closed her eyes." Was that a mistake or am I missing something that happened between Dr Vilkov and the mummified body?
Thanks for sharing!

Many thanks for your review and for your helpful
Comments. Originally the Doctor was female then I changed my mind but clearly did not proofread correctly. I have made the change.
Take care

An eerie story reminiscent of some of those old horror classics from the 30s. You set the story very well, giving us a glimpse of that icy wilderness where the excavation took place. We also can envision the decimation of the team as the entity plays havoc. A solid entry for this contest. Rod

Your story pulled me in from the start. I could feel the eerie atmosphere and the sense of isolation. The Antarctic landscape made everything feel so much more intense. The descent into paranoia and terror was so well done! The ending was perfect. You created an unforgettable sense of dread and mystery. Great job!
