I'm getting there...
As an ex-banjo player, every so often I'll you tube this part of the movie and play it 2-3 times.
Good continuance to the story.
Be catching up soon.

Thanks, John. I've become a real banjo fan lately since writing these last two novels. In fact, I just bought a Flatt and Scruggs CD that will be coming any day now from Amazon. I'll be including a recording of Earl Scruggs's "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" in chapter 12.

Cool. Looking forward to it.

I had to go back and read this one from Frans point of view because I had somehow missed it. I'm glad I did because I now know the plan Fran is asking Brian to help her with. I've got a back pain so bad today I wish I had a little of that.

Sometimes I wish I did too! This plan seems pretty out there. Let's see if Brian can come up with a way to accomplish the seemingly impossible.

I could easily picture the look on Marie's face as she watched the impromptu performance, a bit low grade for her I'm sure. To incapacitate a drug that's on the black market now that's a challenge. Well written, Jim.
cheers,

Marie is quite the music snob. I don't think she'll ever develop a taste for bluegrass the way Julia has.
Yes, you've identified the real challenge: how to incapacitate a drug that you, yourself aren't producing. Let's see what Brian can come up with for this seemingly impossible task.

Hello Jim,
I'm sure it was a bit of a culture shock for Marie to get to meet all of her daughters friends. She's stiff as a board, but perhaps a little more time around her grandson will lighten her up. I can't recall, has she even picked him up and hugged him? It seems that most grandmothers can't keep their hands of their grandkids. Well done my friend.
Blessings,
Tom

Thanks, Tom. In the next chapter, you'll get to hear her thoughts on that "culture shock." As yet, she hasn't picked him up or loved on Johnny in any way.
I hope you enjoy the next couple of chapters as everything comes to a head and we get to see how (if) it will move forward from there.

Marie is so stiff and dry she couldn't enjoy another type of music. Dueling Banjos always puts a smile on people's face. I hope she can eventually relax and find some enjoyment in her life.
I have one question. How will Brian be able to incapacitate a drug that is manufactured in China? I can't wait to see how you and Brian work that out. See you in the next chapter.

That's a good question, Lorraine. We'll have to wait a little while until we find that out. We'll be keeping it with Marie for a while.

Well, I hope Marie wasn't eavesdropping because I'm not sure why she's there - certainly not to enjoy her family. But maybe they'll grow on her. Loved the way you described the little one - that's exactly what that age group would do try to coordinate clapping and end up on the rump!

She's not exactly sure why she's there either, but she'll be finding out pretty soon. Maybe they will grow on her after all.

Nicely done. I am enjoying this story. It has branched out in many different directions. Don't make Marie change too fast. That would not ring true. But, I do think she will thaw. Karen

Thanks, Karen. I'll do my best to keep her realistic. A tiger can't really change its stripes.

I would dearly love to see old sourpuss Marie to loosen up, get rid of the notion that somehow one is a better human being because they think they're better than others because they are 'superior' but really, she was/is a terrible example of what a mother should be. Beautifully written Jim, blessings Roy

Ask and ye shall receive. The next couple of chapters you should find interesting, Roy. Maybe there will be some hope for her yet.

I hope so

Hi, Jim, I like Fran. She's a smart cookie and has managed to get herself back (somewhat incredibly) in the FBI's favour. She's organising Brian, too, as this new distribution seems to be the only hope in sabotaging China's operation. I'll wait to see. Marie has gone a bit quiet which is a shame because I like to see her in full, disruptive mode. But your original and intriguing story is setting in place a plan of recovery from the disaster that could still prevail. Urgency is the operative word, Brian! Well done, Jim. Debbie

She's only back in good favor because she is so successful. They tend to let a few things slip if their agents save the day, I think.
No fears. You'll get to see the old Marie in the next couple of chapters. I hope you enjoy them, Debbie!

I'm wondering how Fran was appointed to head up this task force when she did something illegal in order to get the evidence in the first place. That wouldn't be frowned on by the Director of the FBI?
With a drug being made in China and then smuggled into the US via Mexico - that seems like the cat's out of the bag for me. But I imagine Brian (and Jim Wile) will find a way.
Intriguing chapter, about to become even more intriguing! Thanks, Jim.

It may or may not have been frowned on by the FBI Director depending on who he was, but I'm guessing Fran didn't tell him she broke in there without a warrant.
That was indeed the challenge: To find a way to stop the spread when Brian isn't even making the drug. Let's see how plausible I can make it.
