I swear I already reviewed this. Great picture, and nice poem. How is your weather? 42% here. It gets dark at 6pm. It is mostly overcast. Sunlight does not peak through shyly until 8:30 am. I miss Autumn. Karen

I thought you did too but thank you x 2, Karen! We're being blown to kingdom come here by mighty gales, the fun being wondering which part of the house is being unceremoniously removed next! Debbie

Hello Debi,
I love the way this hedgehog looks, he seems so peaceful as he sleeps. I hope he finds a little more cover before the snows of winter arrive. The older I get, the more I appreciate the wildlife we share the earth with. Congratulations on All Time Best.
Have a blessed evening.

Thank you so much, Tom, for such a kind and thoughtful review! I'm more concerned, in the immediate future, by the prospect of some fastidious gardener coming along to sweep up his winter bedding with Herbie the Hedgehog inside! Take care Debbie

Ohhhhh... such a precious picture and perfect poem to go with it! I really enjoyed this, both poem and illustration. Your word choices are excellent. I don't see anything I would want to change. Hugs, MM

Thank you so much for this lovely review! He is a cutie, Herbie Hedgehog, isn't he? But it's always a worry that some fastidious gardener might come along and sweep up his winter bedding with him inside:( Bless you. Debbie

nicely penned poem about the lowly hedgehog. I did not know that they were an endangered species. are they related to groundhogs and to gophers by any chance?

Hi Jake, thank you for your kind review. No, apparently, hedgehogs belong to an animal species called erinacedei and groundhogs, poor dears, are just classed as rodents. Nor gophers, I think. They have 'hog' in their name because of their similar look to pigs. But that doesn't explain why the groundhog is treated with such disdain:( Take care Debbie

What a lovely poem and a cute hedgehog. I have a friend who takes in sick hedgehogs. They rarely live but she loves them until they go. This one looks as if he is sleeping with happy dreams in his snug leaf bed. I wonder what the two-line follow-up to this perfect little poem could be.

Thank you so much, Carol, for this kind and thoughtful review! The next one is of reindeer. I'm not sure that my hedgehog in the ground followed on too seamlessly from majestic birds flying in a sunset sky! But the little chap deserved an airing:) Take care Debbie

I love hedgehogs~I was fortunate enough to see one in a darkening Hyde Park on a day trip to London when my brother and I were visiting England. This is a wonderful little poem with a sweet photo; he looks so comfy and cozy. Nicely done!

Thank you so much for this kind and thoughtful review! They are lovely little creatures, not exactly cuddly, but great to see around. I forgot that they're not native in the US. You could imagine some fastidious gardener coming along and sweeping up his winter bedding:( Take care Debbie

Our dachshund, small as he is gets all snug on the extra blankets on the couch. At times we know he's there because his tails is sagging away.
Your hedgehog photo made me think of him, Aries.
I don't know what style a renga is, but I certainly enjoyed it. Reads like a haiku(?).

I bet Aries is a real cutie! Thank you so much, John, for your kind review and thoughts! A renga is a collaboration in which people write alternative verses of 7/7 syllables and 5/7/5. I didn't have a clue either but the aim is to create a book of verses that interrelate. If you go to the top of the post, you'll see all the previous entries.... Thanks again. Debbie

A well penned Renga poem with a complementing image. Cold ambience always tends to support deeper and richer sleep, and this animal is no exception. Thanks, dear Debbi for sharing your work.

This was a beautiful piece, and I could picture a slumbering animal in the depths of winter, awaiting springs awakening. A well written piece, Debbie, I really enjoyed reading it.
