I don't like Trenton, he is such a creep. I hope Marsha will divorce him. She is better off on her own but I understand how scary that is.
The story is unfolding smoothly. It's easy to follow along.
Well done

Thank you, Gypsy. I don't like him either. He is a liar and a cheat. An all around weak character. I'm glad you are reading my story.

Divorce is a big, life changing event. With Trenton out of the house, Marsha has free time to sort things out. Talking to an attorney might be a good idea, so she can consider all possible options. Plus, she has to be honest with herself. Is she willing to go back to work? If one of her children blames her for Daddy being gone, will she be able to withstand the accusations? Trenton is full of lies. How much will she tolerate? I look forward to reading her decisions.

I feel for this woman, she is just like many others who's life was deeply affected with a loved ones addiction and affliction, I don't call it a disease, I call it an affliction.

Thank you, Joann. I think many women have endured some very much like this. I appreciate your comments.

I'm still enjoying your story going forward. I like the clues you give the reader that the marriage has more problems than answers, with the wife wising up to what she needs to do to take care of herself and the children.

It sounds like Trenton has all kinds of excuses. Thankfully, Marsha isn't buying into them anymore. Good chapter. thank you for sharing. Have a good day

Thank you, Marilyn. Trenton thinks he can gas light Marsha and she will believe but it seems those days are over.

Trenton is an ass. (Excuse the expression.) But wait a minute, 'you're' the one who developed him! It would have been reasonable for Marsha to have stopped him the moment he stated that he wasn't supposed to be on that phone. "Oh, rules mean nothing to you?" Click.
Best wishes.

Thank you, Wayne. I didn't totally develop him. I've met him. Thank goodness he wasn't a part of my life. Marsha is through with her questions. She wants to find out if he can come up with lies to explain away everything.

I think Marsha is going to come to realise that she is much better off without Trenton, he certainly isn't going to change his ways, no matter how much help he has, and Marsha is starting to see that. Another excellent piece, Beth, I enjoyed reading it.

There is so much to consider when instigating a divorce, but often when these thoughts start, there are many fundamental problems that will not go away and divorce becomes inevitable. A colleague of my husband met a younger woman late in life and he turned his back on his wife of over twenty years to marry this new woman. The ex-wife lost everything, and she was devastated. She was a loyal wife who had supported her husband for years and he betrayed her. We all felt for her as she was kind and gentle. Divorce can ruin people's lives Beth.
Another fine chapter in this fictional, but very real story, much enjoyed.
For the sake of grammar:
(Are those) your thoughts as well?

Good for Marsha coming up with the right questions to ask Trenton when he called out of the blue! She knows that he is lying and completely untrustworthy. The question is whether he is willing to change. If he keeps denying, there is little hope. I guess she'll have to decide how much she can forgive. Consulting a lawyer would be wise.

Thank you, Helen. Marsha is on to Trenton's lies but she doesn't want to rush into a divorce until she decides it isn't fixable.

I wouldn't trust Trenton as far as I could throw him. He is almost certainly a liar and a cheat as well s an alcoholic and a gambler. They sometimes think they can lie their way out of everything. Marsha needs to overcome her fears of not managing without him. I'm sure she can. Well written.
