Please forgive me for being silly, but I immediately though of the Popeye cartoon where he says Salami, salami, baloney!
A baloney sandwich and a small bag of chips was my go to for lunch during my grade school years in Detroit. As a teenager, I was too cool for school lunch. I and my friends would duck off campus for a quick smoke and a bottle of coke. The soda, in case you were wondering.

Nicely written 5-7-5 poem. A question: I couldn't understand why Dick and Jane were running. Did they steal somebody's lunch? =)
All the best for the contest entry.

I remember them, too, but I've forgotten the picture on my lunchbox. Speaking of Roy Rogers, I remember how shocked I was when somewhere I saw the picture of his "Stuffed" horse, Trigger!
Congratulations on winning All Time Best! Cute poem!

I remember those books and what we called a Dagwood sandwich: bologna, lettuce, and a dash of mayo/mustard. Today, I add a few chips for the crunch. Great memory wrapped up in so few words. Well done!

Now there is a baloney sandwich called a "Waldo" Half inch slice of Baloney, big slice of onion, lettuce, tomatoe and mayo. Yumm! Thank you for your wonderful review.

Ah, This is so precious. I remember my first-grade reader and finally loving my name, because I was in it: Dick, Jane, and Sally. I just must say I am really envious that you had a Roy Rogers lunchbox. Wow. I was a Brown-bagger. Yes, Baloney is the correct spelling. ;))
I delightful 5-7-5 poetry contest entry. I'm sure you will win.
Sending along my very best today as always, and my good wishes for the contest.

Nothing wrong with a good bologna sandwich, even today.
Bologna on Wonder Bread with a little mustard and a stack of ice berg lettuce... dang it's making me hungry.
A cute short poem bringing back memories of my own.
Thank.

Thanks for those memories. Honestly, I can't remember what characters were on my lunch box or not. For almost all of my elementary school days, we walked home for 1 hour lunch break, regardless of weather issue. By 6th -7th grade, I biked most days to and from home/school.
