I enjoyed this chapter, Gretchen, for a number of reasons. It was nice to see that Miranda's first act with her newfound wealth was a promise to buy her mother a new roof. Her mother seems wise to the way of the world with her advice to not advertise her wealth because of all the people who will now come out of the woodwork.

I got a kick out of when Matt said, "I heard the Toblerones were here." I pictured that a case of the fine chocolate candy bars had just been delivered for sale in the store. How did you happen to choose that name for them? I've always loved Toblerones.

Things are definitely looking up for Miranda now. She seems like a pessimist. Will she be able to accept it?

Thanks, Jim. I used Missy Toblerone in a murder spoof short story several years ago. I just thought it was fun to say. Lol. A real pessimist will swear they are realists. Expect the worst and hope for the best. Glad you enjoyed this. Gretchen

Aw... I'm so happy for Miranda. It's about time things turned out fine. I think I missed a chapter. I don't remember what happened before the check.

I love it.

Happy Thanksgiving

What a "feel good" chapter this is!! It's Hallmark Movie material - except enjoyable rather than sappy. I felt bad for the Toblerones. The way he kissed her on the top of the said gutted me.

Great job, yet again, Gretchen.

Hello Gretchen,
I 'm so glad Miranda's luck has turned around. As her mother said though, good news travels fast, and for some unknown reason, when a person is blessed with an unexpected windfall, there are always people who feel like they are entitled to a portion of it. For some reason, I get the feeling that Dougie might be wanting to get a little closer. Would you please send her home for a shower? I can't stand the idea of her body being all sticky. I don't know why she went to the bank like that. Ugh!
Have a blessed Thanksgiving gal.
Tom

I think she might have forgotten her discomfort when she got the check. Lol. I kept hearing that sticky sound of shoes when I was writing it. Thank you so much for this great and very entertaining review and the extra star. Gretchen

I admit I laughed at the threat to the children. It was a little creepy but so effective. Life is good for Miranda, but I suspect things are about to change. You gave the reader a nice little thumbnail of the bank manager, unconcerned until Miranda had some significant cash. Its a fun story to follow. gayla

Miranda is so cute when she is surprised by good fortune. It makes her so happy to give her mother a new roof. I just hope Waylon's dad doesn't learn about her good fortune. Her story that straightened those ornery kids out still makes me laugh, especially when she tells their dad what she did. You write such enjoyable stories about Miranda.

I'm a true sucker for good time happenings, but I've also learned that whenever things seem to good to be true, they usually soon blow all to hell. Thanks for sharing. :-)

That little boy loves Miranda so much and calls her mom. My fingers are crossed that she keeps the son she's raised and loved. Miranda won't go down without a fight, that's for sure. Great writing.

A fine chapter, and I am pleased for Miranda - but somehow I get the feeling this is not going to be a good thing for Miranda. that teacher is still lurking in the background, and he makes me very uneasy as well.
Good writing!!!

Yay! Miranda was able to eloquently give her acceptance speech and quickly get the check deposited. I smiled at the realistic response of the bank manager. Makes you wonder how they feel about the rest of their loyal customers who keep their unremarkable amounts of savings with them. Hope the story that Mitch's kids were told doesn't get spread around too much!
