You're right many of our lullabies were very scary and we all survived. I am not sure we're doing children a service by keeping them all protected. Thank you for sharing this poem and the presentation with us.

This really is a horror lullaby! I really enjoyed those Spanish words enriching the sentiments and adding to the drama. Well done, Gypsy. Take care Debbie

Intriguing, but interesting story of lullabies. I am very familiar with El Coco, and Dorothea, which comes from my wife's culture. Well explained and presented.
As a child I had terrible nightmares, and there were many cultural stories floating around, and I survived them all...Lol.

Oh dear! That's not a great way to get anyone to sleep. Fear is not a very good motivation to get someone to sleep. It has to be something soothing or at least boring!

You know the same phenomena occurred with Grimm's fairytales. A little girl almost eaten by wolves, siblings almost eaten by a witch, etc. Stepmothers galore hurting their children. They all have a ghastly aspect to them.
I think it is a more recent part of our society to coddle/protect young children instead of terrifying them (scared straight? I don't know.)
Anyway, this is a well-done (and obviously thought-provoking) poem.
I enjoyed it!

Thank you very much. Grimm's fairytales were scary, you are right. Even Disney have Pinocchio eaten by a whale and boys turning into donkeys.... lol
Thank you very much 😊

Okay, how is someone supposed to sleep soundly with this lullaby? I would be scared to death to close my eyes if my mother would had sang that to me, lol. What country are you from?
