Kevin Glazer, you shitty little turd. You'll be in big trouble now. I love me some, Fran. She's brilliant and resourceful; I might add that she's lucky. This is a great addition, and I plan to catch up today.
God bless, my friend.

I shouldn't admit it, but this wasn't a part of the story I wanted to dwell on too much, so I made it rather easy for her and didn't draw it out too much. Just enough to show that she's pretty sharp and knows how to do stuff.

Well, I am happy you did; it showed what we needed to see.

Fran's first guess for a suspect was correct. I enjoyed reading the way Fran figured out login codes and passwords. I'll be sure not to do what Kevin did, and most people do.

You have now invoked China. This story is going to become much more detailed and complicated than I originally thought. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but that's the method I use to generate most passwords now. It isn't very secure, but it's easy to remember passwords that way.

Yes, there will be a bit of intrigue now on two fronts--the attempt to stop the Chinese from manufacturing Dipraxa, and the battle against Big Pharma that wants to destroy Glyptophan. That will keep things moving, but it won't be all action. Still a lot of time devoted to character development and fun stuff.

Hello Jim,
I'm a little surprised that Kevin doesn't have cameras in his high end apartment. Even though she's in disguise, I would suspect he would recognize Fran if he saw her. The guy obviously is a world class creep and needs to be tried for treason and hung, if they still do that kind of thing. Thanks for sharing.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

According to what I've read about it, treason prosecutions are rare these days because the requirements of proof are quite stringent. Historically, the death penalty has been used, but is almost unheard of today for treason. Usually just a prison sentence.

Kevin is not particularly bright, and it's probable he didn't even realize the import of selling Dipraxa to the Chinese. He probably just thought it would become a popular drug and didn't realize it has the potential to destroy the US economy. Then again, maybe he's just a greedy bastard and doesn't really care about that because he will soon retire to some island paradise.

At any rate, that part of the story is done, and the readers can decide what his fate should be. Now Fran et. al. will be faced with the bigger problem of how to stop Dipraxa's spread.

The needed information of guilt wasn't that hard to procure, but since Kevin has already sold the patent information to China, I'm more than curious what the next move is. Thanks for sharing and adding a few more pieces. Wish I had a six.

Yep, the much bigger and more difficult problem will be to figure out what to do to stop this scourge. Lots will be devoted to this, and there will be some science involved in it.

We'll also be concerned with Big Pharma's attempts to block the new drug, Glyptophan, that eliminated the addiction problems of the first attempt, Dipraxa, and is currently undergoing successful (so far) human trials. Two major plot lines to this story.

Yes, there is lots going on at the same time. But for me, the more the better, and you haven't forgotten to add the human family drama in too. Great job!

Another great chapter. Fran solved who stole the formula but is she going to need to find a way to keep the product from entering the country from China? If only there was a drug that would cure people from wanting drugs, our country would be a lot better place. Fran is very cool and is still the young woman who raised her brother and saw him become a successful scientist.

Thanks so much, Carol. I like your speculations about Fran's role going forward. You're actually pretty close with your second solution.

This is a great read, Jim! I've been very tense expecting something to go wrong especially when Fran was in Kevin's apartment. She's a very smart agent isn't she? I only hope her immediate situation is now a little more stable because the implications of the patent information being sold to China are deeply troubling. Wow, this is serious stuff now and it's an eye-opener that all this could have escalated from such small beginnings. Well done on this entertaining and informative chapter, Jim. Take care Debbie

Thanks so much, Debbie. Fran did figure this out rather easily, but, as you've picked up, the much greater problem is the idea that the Chinese are behind the spread of the drug. I'm sure they quickly realized how addictive it was and decided it would make a good stealth weapon against the US. They could bring us down without firing a single bullet or missile.

I was worried about this chapter because of the all the technical stuff and the fact that it was mostly narrative, but some chapters are just like that, and I guess it's okay as long as it remains interesting.
reply by Debbie D'Arcy on 20-Nov-2024
I wondered about the technical detail but then decided it's essential to the job Fran is doing, thus making her that much more credible and impressive.

I thought I needed a little of it anyway for some degree of authenticity, but that's about all there will be. Not a major focus or interest of mine, but there will be some more science eventually. Not as much as in the previous story, though. (Debbie sighs in relief!)

I'm sure this sort of thing actually does happen. Some people don't care who they hurt as long as they make money. A good chapter showing Fran's tenacity in wanting to clear her name.

Thanks so much, valda. It's a shame that some people would sell out their country just for individual gain, but perhaps he didn't think of how devastating this drug could be to the economy of the nation--or didn't want to think about it.

You have cleverly expanded your story to include methods for industrial espionage Jim, very clever, I realise how easy it would be to discover how to rob me of my meagre assets, heh heh, but somehow I doubt anyone would be interested, well done, blessings my friend, great write, Roy

Thanks very much, Roy. It wouldn't be hard to rob me either, because I use the method of password generation that I wrote about! Fran would shake her head at me too.

I read this and could sworn I wrote a review but maybe I got distracted and failed to save it. It sounds as though Fran knows what she is doing her boss knew her well enough to know she would find a way to clear her name as well as her brothers. Nicely written.

Thanks, Beth. I think her boss trusts her judgment enough to kind of let her do her thing because she usually gets results. He had to lay down the law in front of the IA guys, but figured she probably wouldn't listen.

I am happy that all things are working out, but it seems almost too easy. I'm sure there will be some more bumps in the road. I can't wait to read about them.

I agree with you, but I didn't want to belabor this portion of the story any further because it's relatively minor in the grand scheme of the story. The bigger problem will be figuring out how to stop the spread of the drug now that they know it's being manufactured in China.
