Opinions are a bit like tattoos. Once you get your opinion, it's hard to change it. Sometimes, it's about having to admit you're wrong. Other times, we just don't worry about learning new information. Very thought provoking poem. Gretchen

These words are very true. We mustn't let stubbornness ruin a friendship.
It is a hard thing to say that you were wrong. I'm glad in this case, an old friendship was healed.

It can be hard changing our opinions, especially if we have held onto our beliefs for so long, but I think we should always find room to grow as people and accept new ideas. A well written piece, Pat. I enjoyed reading it.

Sometimes it doesn't hurt to change your mind. Some people are too stubborn to admit they were wrong, or are so set in their ways that they can't change. You give a good example of it possibly helping restore an old friendship. judi

I agree with this premise wholeheartedly, Pat. It's a very difficult thing to do, especially when you've been of one mind for a long time. It doesn't seem as though it should be so difficult if you can accept new facts and realities, but it still is.
I think it may be a matter of ego, not being able to admit when you were wrong about something. You just don't want to admit to yourself that maybe you've been deceived or have deceived yourself and that if you'd kept a more open mind, you may not have been deceived.
This goes for many things, including changing your mind about a friend or maybe even a political candidate. The worst thing to do though, is to double down and make it worse because you just refuse to accept reality. That's where pride goeth before the fall.
