My daughter (who, in places that are not Makebelievian, is 42-1/2) is four again, and we just brought this home from a boutique bookstore. She is sitting on my lap in the bentwood rocker in her lemon yellow room, and we are loving every word together. We finish, and she says, "Can you read it again?"
This is SUCH a fabulous story on so many levels. It presents as a children's book, but the grown-ups reading it can feel the weight of its allegory, and THAT comes from the finest writing.

It reminds me of my youngest brother when he learned to ride a bicycle he was getting real proud of himself. He came around the corner And hadn't had gotten so proud of himself that he was had his feet up on the handlebars and he didn't make the corner full enough and he ran a bicycle right up to the tree and it did a little damage to his body.
