While you were undergoing some very trying times in your life, I was undergoing some of the most wonderful times. I had met my soul mate, was enjoying the best times of my life with her, and on New Year's Eve, would make her my wife.
I will be waiting with interest for the next chapter.

Wow! That sounds terrible. I was a little disappointed I had known my husband until he got out of military. I was a bit envious of some of friend who got to go live in Germany or some other country. Maybe I was lucky,

Good for you, persevering despite that woman's stupidity. Sometimes one does have to go to higher levels (as I have experienced also) to get things done. We were one of the families evacuated just prior to the Gulf War, and my husband was left behind, so your story brings back a lot of memories for me too. Looking after three children in my sister's spare bedroom, then moving to an apartment, then travelling a thousand kilometres back home when the lease on our house had finished, and then getting everything out of storage again. I sympathise with you!

What an horrendous experience all round! I think I might have gone completely out of my mind with frustration and anger. But it's surprising what we women can do when the odds are stacked against us (as they so often are!) I'm impressed, Barbara, with the way you stood up to bureaucracy and got the job done. I bet Brian was too. But why were they saying that he'd taken the money out himself? Did they know at all what they were doing? Thank you for sharing this excellent memory of life as a military wife. Take care Debbie

Hi Barbara,
This is a great chapter. It shows how frustrating the military can be. You nailed it. I would love to read this book when finished. You sure had me walking down memory dealing with all the red tape. I found what I believe to be a few errors. Great job. Keep it coming.

-Maybe {good some} news, Should it be {some good}?

-I received a call every six weeks{,} but often it was longer. comma?

I had a comma there, but my grammar check threw a temper tantrum. I added it. I'll see what the other reviewers say. I have an issue with mixing up words. LOL My brain works faster than my fingers. Thank you for the catch. I appreciate it.

We always are thankful to the service men and women in our armed forces. Total respect and admiration.

But, so little is said about the left behind mom and wife holding the family together not hearing from their spouse for weeks on end.

Strength and courage as well!

Thank you for the kind review. I'm hoping these posts give a little information about what military life is like for the family members. It was honestly difficult, but that being said, I wouldn't have traded it. It was a good life.

Good grief Herbert! They ought to have award ceremonies for the wives. You know the phrase "Hurry up an wait," comes from the military, right? Did your head ever explode? Many kudos to you. You have my complete respect and awe of your problem solving skills. The military would have forced my husband to divorce me. I would have gone into my husbands bosses office with my kids, and said a house was promised, I got here, no house. I went to get money from the bank for food, no money.
Somehow, while fighting and on the move in Afganistan, he used the Star Treks transporter, beamed into the bank, and withdrew all our money, in person. I have no home, no money, and we are moving in with you until this is fixed. I would not last long in that structured life. You are amazing. Karen

Thank you. The good news was I trusted my husband enough to know he'd never do that to us.

These complex forms can be a nightmare, even when written in English they can be quite difficult. I saw a legal document in German at which my wife is fluent, about a dispute regarding ownership of East German property when the reunification had happened, and she had trouble interpreting, beautifully written Barbara, an excellent post, blessings Roy

Oh, how I remember those days--at least parts of them. We never left the States because of what happened to Johnny, and we lived in a two-room apartment that probably had wall-to-wall cockroaches and gas leaks. I was spraying constantly, and my father drove 1000 miles to fix the leaks because we couldn't get anyone to do it. Military life wasn't the same as how they have it now. Thanks for sharing.
