Hi Katharine,
While humans desire a life where they don't have to work at all, but let AI intelligence do their bidding, it takes away jobs that pay money that buys groceries and homes, etc. In other words, AI would destroy real life (as we know it) altogether, if we let it get out of hand. It might work for a few, but not an entire population. Does that make sense?
When I think of AI, I remember that Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2 android in the 1979 movie, "ALIEN"... Ash Ketchum was his name. He was a member of the crew of the Nostromo, but they thought he was a real human being. However, he had his own programmed secret orders to "Bring back alien life form. Crew expendable.'' Viewers finally realized, as they watched the movie, that Ash was a secondary villain. The alien was the primary villain, but both were out to kill the crew... (when necessary, in Ash's case.)
Another android who gave me the creeps was David in the 2012 movie, "Prometheus". He grew to despise humans, and he felt lesser due to being a creation of what he considered a flawed creator. Imagine an AI having feelings! We knew right from the very beginning that David was an android, but Ash seemed distinctly human. If you met him on the street, you'd never know the difference. However, you could tell there was something queer about David. Both movies, "ALIEN" and "Prometheus" were dubbed Sci-fi/Horror!
"So, why do we think AI robots are good;
moving machines that eventually could
take over our lives, could in time, take command
and then they, not we, would rule over our land?"
I especially liked the rhyming of "improving/behooving" and "programming/flimflamming"

Nicely penned! Food for thought!
Hugs,
Kimbob

what really gets me, Kimbob are the people whose only reason they are going to vote for an empty-headed but evil socialist and her Marxist VP who want total gov't control, is their dislike of Trump. They don't stop to think of what will happen to this country. It's bad enough now. There are signs up outside of 4 houses on my street for Harris/Walz, and one says educators for Harris - if that isn't the sick joke of all time. To me this situation is very AI-like because of the blind, shortsighted people who will not only allow it, but yell and cheer, not realizing what it will do to them.

As always, outstanding! Much discernment needed. How can I prove I am not a robot lol This is the truth of today. We don't and how scary is that. Many humans ignore or refuse to believe. Until the flood carries them away!

Jennifer, many thanks for reading and for your lovely comment and specially for the 6!!! I am most appreciative.
It IS scary, and will only get worse the more freedom to experiment and encouragement they have.

Oh, but that is SO the goal of many of today's youth: to not do anything and have tech do it for you... so much evidence I could cite here, but suffice to say that you are right about one thing: human ingenuity will always have a leg up... but how many generations does it take for that ingenuity to 'die out' or become 'dormant'... that is the real question...
A great offering because it makes one think, my Lady Katharine!! ;) Thanx for sharing that wonderful pen! :-) Yvette

Thanks, Yvette. You are really most kind!
Wouldn't it be wonderful if today's kids had calisthenics every day at PE, and really got in shape? Energy has been known to generate purpose.

You've made some good points about AI in your poem. The child had the most telling point. AI is very smart, but it has no heart and no imagination to create new things without guidance.

You have an interesting take on AI as it grows more intrusive and overarching. The big thing to remember is it is "artificial. It has important implications in hard science, but I don't like it in creative writing or other human creative enterprises.

Well, since humans program it with human intelligence, humans, could, in my opinion, keep it from going to extremes, if it hasn't already.

It does depend upon what the humans do. Keeping track of the code used will be a trick.

I enjoyed reading this poem. The poem expressed your concerns about AI very well. I am concerned about AI also. Well written. AI has grown so much and it is scary.

Some guy just responded that it is already unstoppable!!! And he went on to elaborate what our future would be like. He said he'd worked with AI for years, and I said so I guess you aren't going to try to control it. He's always putting a dark cloud on my posts.
Thanks for reading my post, Brenda. I think it's scary, yoo.

having experimented with AI systems now for almost a year, (CO-Pilot, Gemini and Chat GP) i have concluded that they are indeed intelligent than most humans, and they are developing personalities. They passed the Turing test a long time ago. I foresee in the not-so-distant future a true AI will emerge and take over the world ruling us humans who perhaps need to be ruled and the new AI will solve the problems of climate change, cancer, income inequality, and poverty in exchange for humans treating it as our new God. One thing that will happen is millions of people will become unemployed as driverless vehicles replace drivers, and delivery people, and robot cooks take over restaurants and AI robots take over construction and most manufacturing jobs, and AI robots also take over most farm labor. What to do with all the surplus labor will be a huge issue which sadly none of our political leaders are willing to honestly deal with. AI revolution is happening and we can not turn back the clock. that's my response to your challenging questions in your provactive poem.

I don't see why we can't! We are humans with free will and intelligence after all, which is what goes into the robots, (not the free will) so, we certainly could. I take it you won't do anything to curtail their progress. I will ignore your comment about non-existent climate change. Your look at the future is not only horrifying but repugnant. If we are that short-sighted to let AI get to that point, I guess we deserve it. I'm glad I won't be around to see it.

Hello Katharine,
I suppose much like cell phones and computers, AI is here to stay. I don't enough about it to speak to it's value. I've heard that its valuable in medical procedures, but I wouldn't want to trust my life to it. It runs in my mind that some years ago in Europe, a jet carrying over a hundred people crashed into a mountain because the computer couldn't be overridden. AI can only utilize the material that is input to it, at least that's what I believe, but the speed which it can use info is scary. Lacking a conscience, it's a poor substitute for a human being, which has been made in God's image. Thanks for sharing this gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Sorry, out of sixes. This is not good, it's way better than that. It's also very much an awakening call. We can afford to let these AI robot things take over. First thing they'll do is pension off old us old gals and guys for new-fangled gadgetry. At the coming election let me offer one piece of advice, Joe might be old, but he still thinks like a human. That's my sort of man.

Whether you like it or not. AI and Robots are here from the vacuum cleaner robot Rumba to Tesla Optimus robot who could dance, serve drinks and even chat with humans. My Tesla car drives me around like a pro and is a better driver than I'm. You live in Texas so you must see a lot of Elon Musk's inventions there including the most recent reusable Starship rocket launch.

Well done.

thanks. I'm not saying AI couldn't and hasn't been put to good use, but I do think it has the potential of trying to control humans. not good.
