Hi Barbara! (Port Raid Review #3)
---So, the same child that was smart enough to figure out how to get the curly fries at Arby's was doubted in his ability to know the difference between a steer and a deer? It's easy for me to see reading these back-to-back, but of course, I didn't get to live through the decade of knuckleheaded moments the child had in between like you did, so no judgment! *laughs*
---I like the answer from the police! Sounds just like a small town Sheriff who only wants to work when he has to!
---One little comma issue I found: "Mom, you're not going to believe this[,] but there's a longhorn steer in our front yard."
Pookie and I are coming back for more! Stay tuned!

Thank you for your wonderful support. I didn't believe we would ever have a longhorn in our front yard. We do have numerous deer.

I don't know about a steer, but it certainly isn't a bull. She looks mild-mannered enough to not act up. Having gotten on the wrong side of a milk cow, I don't trust any of them.

I thought she looked like she needed milking. This is a lovely story and good picture. Some city folks won't know the difference. You wrote about this well. Enjoy the week. Karen

Thank you for the kind review. As I took a second look at the photograph, I realized it's a cow. Not a steer. LOL

Humph. I know some guys who if that beef should show up in that yard, there would soon be a major barbecue session underway. You wind up in my yard, you just became a hot menu item. That is their attitude towards beef and or pork. LOL.

LOL Thank you for the kind review. I didn't get close enough to check, but he probably had a brand.

It was probably a wiser move to keep your distance. Those horns are no joke.

Hi Barbara,
I don't understand why it would be legal to allow live stock to wander around the countryside. Does that mean that if it's in your yard you can shoot it? We have moose passing through our front yard every year. A few weeks ago we had a large bull and a cow move through. They always leave hoof prints in the grass, and the urine from the females is toxic to the lawn. Not much I can do about that though. Thanks for sharing this gal.
Have a blessed evening.

Not if it has a brand. Texas is an open range state, it goes way back in our history. Thank you for the kind review.

So long horn are cows?
It's fun when our kids come home.my kids lice in central California and I live in southern California but they visit quite often. I would say my grown children are city children.
Well done. Descriptive andeasy to visualize. .

Thank you for the kind review. Yes, long horns are cow, in this case it was actually a steer.

That was very cute. I will have to check for other stories about your family. The dialog was the perfect way to relate the story. Reminiscing is a good name for a book of memories. Well done. Esther

You underestimated your son .He was knowledgeable about steer and deer. It is a cute story . You are right when you say that we remember the moments ,not the dates

I can imagine how different Texas and the city must be. In the UK there is a vast difference between the countryside and London, there definitely isn't as many transport connections in the countryside in the UK. I have cousins who live out in New Mexico, which I believe is the next state to Texas, who I found while researching my family history and have remained in touch with. I definitely want to go out there and meet them at some point. An excellent piece, Barbara.

Well, he might have been a city boy, but he did know the difference between a deer and a steer. It was certainly an unexpected site at your place on the top of a steep hill. Well written.
