War is an ugly thing and yet our leaders choose it too often over diplomacy.
I think of those in Ukraine being sent still to die for a lost war.
Most have had a month maybe two of training and then they are sent to die in the meat grinder .
Why?
Because the war has to be dragged on at least to the elections because to acknowledge defeat would jeopardise the outcome for the Democratic.
All those billions wasted and nothing to show , no victory.
Zelensky had the guts to say only 31.000 Ukraine soldiers had died in war in feb 2024.
He doesn't even show respect for those that sacrificed their lives for their country.
400.000 dead Ukraine soldiers , that is a huge chunk of their army.
Sons, fathers, brothers all died for a provoked and an un- necessary war.
Our leaders care only about power , they are so quick to send people to war to achieve their objectives. .
Every war fought should teach us that war is not the answer and yet here we are on the brink of WW 3 .
We don't remember nor show respect to those millions who died in war in the past. Our leaders have learned nothing.

Our world is crumbling away
and I'm too old to adjust to all the :
transgender and woke crap.
Robots.
Growing violence in the streets, cities
And all this warfare in Ukraine and the Middle East is bringing ruin to the Western World.

Such a wonderful offering for this contest -- although you had but seventeen syllables, you made many take stock of the sacrifices of all! :-) Thanx for sharing and best of luck! :-)

Unfortunately, there will always come a time when the last man standing is no longer here anymore either. A sad thought, but one one we need to always remember before it is too late.

This is very well written for the 575 portrait contest and I wish you the very best of the contest. May you have a wonderful day and may God bless you. It is a sad thing when no one comes as you point out in your poem. Patricia.

These days will come.

Oh, that is difficult and sad. One wonders if the other survivors have all died, or are too unwell. Surely not forgotten or lack of interest! Succinct and poignant. Best wishes for the contest.

We try to remember the heroes who died so that we may live in peace and we pay tribute to them every year even though their grave stones are rarely visited, la poignant poem, love Dolly x

What a beautifully written but very sad poem, a lone gravestone with a flag of one's country, in attendance, but no warm blooded creature to pay homage to the cold ground harbouring a lone man, beautifully written, good luck, blessings Roy

A poignant 5-7-5 poem as the years go by and now there is no one left to grieve, to pay homage. Though we remember the wars of the past, the individuals that fought in those wars are not always remembered. Good luck in the contest.
cheers

A haunting image. How long the lonely dead lay, some, if not all, fade into the forgotten past. A 5-7-5 that is so well written and brings up thoughts and visions. All is Vanity.

This is such a poignant 575 poem. You've done well to squeeze so much emotion into so few words and it's such an important subject. Well done.
I wish you all the best.
