I am not much of a poet, but I really like this poem. I once lived in the Colorado mountains but never knew there were so many kinds of birds. That Stellar Jay is really a beautiful bird. I never knew jays could imitate hawks, but the smaller birds have to be grateful for the warning.

This is a very vivid description of the gathering of birds of all kind around the Silver Lake in early Autumn for breakfast. You pen the behaviours of the birds with such details as would a bird researcher. Thanks for sharing your creative work. Well enjoyed. Well done, dear Crystie.

Ahh the joy of the Jay, We don't get them where I am, It's more the raucous shout of the gulls competing with pigeon coos.
Still, if I go a bit inland, to the woods on the South Downs, then there birds are more musical.
Thank you for sharing.

What a lovely scene you've painted here! The way you bring Silver Lake to life is so impressive - it's like stepping into the crisp mountain air with you. I love how you captured the Steller's jays with such personality. I thought this poem was a true pleasure to read. Thank you for sharing this slice of nature!

A visit to the Wasatch Forest sounds like a delightful visit with nature's beautiful birds. I am now imagining all the birdsong. This is a lovely read, Crystie, and I enjoyed the visit. Best of luck in the contest,
cheers,

Hello Crystie.
This is an very good piece giving a verbal visual image of the habitat of the birds and all of the other "critters" that inhabit the scene. Itis full of information and provides an excellent image in the reader's mind.

This is a very nice entry for the Free Verse Poem competition. Your descriptions are detailed and crisp, great imagery. I especially like "dark, alert eyes under grandfather-white brows". Very nicely done!

I absolutely love this. It reminds me of a camping trip at Ruby mountain on the Arkansas River in Colorado. There were birds everywhere, and particularly bluebirds, which I love. I saw one yesterday, in fact. I've considered taking up bird watching, but, I have too many irons in the fire now! Lol. Great fun.

Thank you for your personalized review. I just found out about Arkansas' poetry contest results today, that I had also entered, for the first time. Thanks for the six stars as well!

What a delightful poem. There are certainly a lot of birds I do not recognize as I live in Australia. However, your description is clear and certainly sends an image of a wonderful scene. Lucky you living near the Canyon and the Lake.
Thanks for sharing. All the best in the competition.
