Oh, my goodness, you are not just whistling 'Dixie' with that last line there, sir! Also, love the fact that my mind went from your well-crafted image here to that old saying: 'If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?' Of course it does -- there's ALWAYS reverberation and consequence, no matter the 'universe' in which they occur! ;) ;) Another great contest offering, Jer -- a free verse that carries the reader from small to our entire existence.... :) :) Thanx for sharing and best of luck in the contest! ;) Yvette

Overall very well written. This type of "news story poetry" is not my fave, but yours was actually enjoyable and I think I was more engaged with the actual subject material because of the literary elements you included.

Hey, I heard about this on our news in New Zealand just a couple of days ago!

There is one fact here that you need to check. You say the landslide was 10,000 pounds of earth and rock. That immediately struck me as being way too small to create such an enormous tsunami so I'm afraid I fact-checked you. The first site I found mentioned 25 million cubic metres of rock. Now that's more like it!!

I liked the more poetic parts of your post - the first 9 lines and the last few. I felt the dryer description in the middle could actually have been given in notes below your poem.

But yes, mind-bending stuff. Who knows what will happen tomorrow?

Steve
