A great shout out for disabled people, Harry. The poem reads really well. Your rhymes flow naturally and the sentiment is real without being 'gushy'. Well done.

This is a great poem of encouragement for those people dealing with "different abilities" (as I've heard someone describe disabilities). All you need to do is watch the Paralympics to see that they can accomplish so much, sometimes even more than a fully-abled person can. Very nicely done!

I needed to read this. This is an excellent piece of work. I agree wholeheartedly that disability is not a dirty word. I won't go into that here; beyond it is what I believe we make it. We all have demons in our lives, and this work hit me deeply. Thank you again; I hope, like me, another reads this work and it connects with them too.

That all aside, the flow of the piece is great, it reads smoothly, and there are no unnecessary words. The only thing I'd suggest, if possible, to include is a break in the work through the language to help the reader reflect more before going on to the next chunk of the work. I'm sorry I don't know what change that would be, but I believe you could do it with this or another work. I gave it a 6-star for a reason. :) Have a great day.

I enjoyed your poem and usually disabled people are very courageous and live their lives to the full, it is able bodied people who are often flawed, a fine poem, love Dolly x x x

Yes, Dolly. You are so right. As a disabled Veteran I can tell you that you are correct when you say able bodied people are often flawed. Thank you for your review. I really appreciate that!

Disabled people are just as special, probably more so, as the rest of us. When I was teaching, I always got the special students put in my class. My paraprofessional wasn't happy about it and complained to me about the extra work. I told her I didn't mind. I'd rather have those students in my class than have them with a teacher who didn't want them. The other grade level teachers didn't want them and said it loudly and proudly. My opinion, they should have found another occupation. Teaching wasn't for them. Thank you for sharing.

An excellent motivating verse which I enjoyed reading. The repeating echo of your title is very effective in inculcating this truism into our society. And the visual with the smiling contestants complements your verse perfectly. Well done Harry! Debbie

I've had students who were "disabled," and the ones who did the best were the ones whose families never treated them as if they had a disability. They had to adapt to make themselves fully functioning in this non-disabled world, but they managed and didn't dwell on that. Nice reminder of that, this poem of yours.

A standing ovation for you, the poem and every person who has kept on fighting regardless of their disability. My oldest son is disabled by no fault of his own and his siblings have stood up against their friends and showed them he was to be treated with respect or there is the door. Everyone met their wishes.
Smiles, Carol
