Your story is a wonderful memory. Children bring out the best in us, and they can make us smile like No one else. I especially liked:
Patches sat in the middle of the floor, her black fur dusted in baby powder.
(Good imagery. I could see the whole scene. Just sharing ... my children had a kitchen set and one day they had a wonderful time making a "cake" with the baby powder. The power was everywhere, including on the blue curtains that I had just hung.)
Thank you for sharing this memory and a little piece of you.
Well done. Margaret ~ LateBloomer

I think many mother's can see this or something very similar happening when their children or grandchildren were growing up. I so appreciate your review and sharing the memories.

This is so sweet, Carol. I can only imagine how much you miss Mikey. PLEASE be gentle on yourself and know that we all love you. Mikey was a delightful child who truly knew how to make his mom'is spirits soar. I know it must be hard but rewarding to write these stories.
So because of a little birdie called Karenina who told me about you needing one more, this is #26 &you will get our ATB tonight!
God bless sweetie! Lots a ove, Debi

I'm having a bit of PTSD thinking back to when my Michael was four...
He'd look at me with those blue eyes and bright smile and say "I will help you, Mommy!!
....Inevitably my prediction of twice the time and twice the mess would come true, but I wouldn't trade one precious memory for a spic and span " Martha Stewart" sparkling clean kitchen!
I'm so sorry Mikey's time on earth was cut short by such tragedy...
If I tilt my head just right I can here him giggling over the decades!

Anything Mikey put his hands on meant clean-up in aisle four. LOl Guess it was good that I enjoyed being with my kids more than I wanted a perfect house. I'm thankful he left me with so many memories.

My Mike was a disaster in the kitchen...
But my Jessica was known as Messy Jessy!

Nice story. Children really do like to help, don't they? A few Christmas's ago, I helped my neighbor's children make cookies. It was quite a messy project but we all had a great time and the cookies turned out great.

Thanks so much, Mary! My children and grandchildren have always been in the kitchen with me...and yes, cleanup is quite messy, but their laughter and smiles make it worth it.

Kids. I can just see Mikey and Patches. Mom's patience was amazing. Carol, I don't know how you switch between ghosts and crime to cute kid stories to faded memories and back. I want to see a picture of you writing in your bubble. I am sitting at the kitchen table in our cabin on a wooden chair that gives me a backache. Not inspirational. Esther

Hello, Esther...My computer desk is a rolltop desk in my large family room and there are french doors all the way around. Outside is my deck, a huge backyard and the river.... My peaceful spot. It's where I started writing as a kid and where it will end when my time comes.

Will you enter my Who is Who? Recognize each other by a short personal 4 line description.
-
Do you have it posted yet? Or just thinking about it? How will it work.... I'm the one with so many questions. LOL
-
It is posted, Who is Who. Blind. 4 lines of anything about you w/o sharing gender or age. Just for fun, so many of us have a particular style or something about our writing. Deadline is the 9th I think? Debi helped me design it.

This memory was adorable and sweet. It brought back many fond memories for me. I loved the "cake" the boy made for Patches. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you!

Mikey was a devil in an angel costume I think... A mad scientist and always mixing things. A lot of memories in a fw short years.

This is so amusing, Carol! I love your attention to detail (e.g. the tongue peeking out) revealing your wonderfully perceptive skills. This is such a feel-good story with a surprise but perfect ending, reflecting young children at their imaginative best. Thank you so much, Carol, for brightening an otherwise very dull Tuesday! Bless you, Debbie

Thank you so much, Debbie. He was a firecracker with the thoughts of a mad scientist. I probably would have been in the looney bin if he had ever reached being a teenager... My first thoughts were the Doc in Back to The Future.... a car rocketing somewhere.

Aw, Carol!
How your delightful narrative resonates with me as my little four-year-old grandson ALWAYS wants to help "Bumma" or "Bumpa" when we are doing ANYTHING! And the truth is, he is really good help! So much laughter.
You have captured the enthusiasm and delight of "Mikey."
Enjoyed very much!
Thank you for sharing!

I must admit though, I don't know if I could have handled it all the way till adulthood. A mad scientist at work! Except when he smiled! Perfection!

Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after he turned 4 years old. I was lucky to have the few memories that I have. Thank you so much for the review.

well, your little boy would put Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer to shame. Never a dull moment. I can chuckle because I didn't have to clean it up. He really kept you hoppin. A happy, busy child with a quick mind.
good memories!

I might not have survived if he'd lived to be a teenager. Can't imagine the disasters he would have conjured up. I think I was left these memories for a reason.
