This fifty-word flash fiction story, An End to the Noise, has the required word count and finds this sad person taking the plunge after the disparaging words from others take the last measure of her hope.

Greetings, Mr. Bill!! So good to hear from you and what a bright surprise!! Thanx so much for the stars, sir -- feels good to slowly get 'my pen' working again.... had to take a hiatus to find my anchor again, but I'm back: on my own with a great little house and this, my first year of retirement from teaching!! Working part time at a local department store just to keep me 'in with people' (scary in and of itself -- lol!) and enjoying so 'me' time! :) :) Again, thanx so much for the encouragement and shiny 'welcome back'! :) Yvette

I'm glad to know you are feeling fine. This fifty word flash is beautifully written, but describes the sad thoughts and experience of a troubled protagonist. The chasm's call is greater than life. Best wishes in the contest.

Having lost two children, I can't tell you what chills and tears this story brought to me. The emotions of a child struggling with the bullying and life with Mom is felt. It happens more than any of us wish to admit.

Ciao , you now have 7 votes!
Reading your story reminded me of a chat I had with my best friend a couple of years ago during the pandemic.
We decided to go out like Thelma and Louise when we got too old because having taken care of both our fathers we know there is nothing much after a certain age just illness, pain, loneliness.

A sad commentary of many lives. Good description and word choice for fifty words. I could feel despair and tension. Nicely done. I'm glad you're fine. Have a wonderful day and good luck in the contest. Be well.

I'm glad you're fine because your 50 word flash had me a bit worried. You skilfully capture the escalating forces at play, the noise of the team contrasted with the silence and calm of the chasm below. It's a powerful read. Good luck! Debbie

Yes, there is something compulsive about great heights or the dark depths of the chasm, ravine, or underground cave, there are a lot of divers who like to dive in bottomless flooded underground caves, some pay the price, well done good luck, blessings Roy

This is a strong and visceral word choice for the piece. It definitely helps us get inside the head of a nameless character and feel their inner turmoil. Great work!

This is such a sad story. So many people have faced the choice described in this piece. That being said, it is well written and concise, and not every story is a happy one. Best wishes!
