Gypsy,
A lovely Tanka poem. When a dear friend of mine died, I buried myself in his closet to smell the beautiful scent that was him. It made me feel as though he was still there, so I can totally relate to your beautiful poem. I can't remember the cologne he wore, I just know I haven't smelled it in stores, or anywhere since.
I'm sorry I took up your reviewing time with my story, but your story rings true for me and other who've lost someone dear.
Beautiful graphics and words!
Best wishes,
Cindy

Cindy, you didn't take my review time, I'm honored you feel comfortable to share it with me. This is about an old memory I have about my mother. After she died I would lay on her bed because it smelled like her. I was ten years old. I changed it for poetic purpose but I'm sure many people can relate. Sound and smell are conduits for memories.
Thank you very much, Cindy 😊

Those middle of the night calls are never good. If somebody calls in the middle of the night, it's always bad. Thank you for sharing this ominous poem with us. I enjoyed reading.

My oldest daughter was in a serious car accident but thank God she was unharmed. Her best friend died.
Thank you very much, Barbara 😊

Another fine poem, Gypsy....and a sad reality for too many, unfortunately. There's nothing like that dread when the phone rings in the middle of the night

That's so sad - terrifying, too, to get such a middle of the night call. It's hard to overcome such a sudden loss. One of my friends is taking a Griefshare class where people who lost loved ones care share with one another.

Oh how scary! Was that when Hilary was in high school? That was a long time ago, right?

Angel, my oldest daughter, was in high-school, close to her graduation. She was spelled from the car and landed on grass. God was watching her. It was so scary. I didn't know how she was until we got to the hospital.
-
That's right - Angelica! I mixed up her name with her partner's name. I hope they are doing well in their relationship now. 💖

Yes, they are doing well. Angel came for a visit a week ago. She stayed with us and Muffin kept barking at her. I felt bad. Muffin barks at other dogs, people walking by, and trucks! LoL my daughter is going to take her to dog school.
Hilary has been sober for months and they seem to be doing well. Though my daughter said Hilary spends 500 a week on groceries ! For two people that's crazy. She goes to the local nature's food market, they are super expensive. But it's out of my control.
❤️ I hope you are well. What do you have planned for the weekend? Taking a nap? LoL
-
Whew! That is a lot on groceries. I hope it's good quality food and not just brand names. But things cost more in CA, too. Hope Muffin behaves better when Angel visits again! 💖

How many lovers have gone through this dreaded feeling, anticipating the time, the moment when the bad news comes. This expresses a real human feeling and deep emotional stress that come with eventual loss of someone dear.

I used to hate hearing the phone ring late at night. My mom used to say friends call before 9 p.m. but bad news calls after. Your poem made me remember that. Sad poem. Let's you realize that life can change in an instant. Gretchen

This tanka, In the Middle of the Night, has the proper formatting and imagines that horrible moment when the news of someone's passing is made known.
