It's so sad that one half of every couple will be left alone like this one day. There's no getting away from it. It is such a lonely time, but the knowledge that the other half will fly off one day and they will be together once for is a comforting thought. I like this story, and it was nice that her hubby came through the window as she slept. This was lovely, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

It made me feel good and I am glad you did too. His truck does still sit by the side of the yard and I have threatened to make it into a flower bed, but I fear I might get late night visits that wouldn't be too friendly. LOL

I should have guessed it was about you. I think you should make his truck into a flower bed. I have seen some strange things, one lady turned her late husbands cement mixer into a flower disply and painted the outside of the bowl and bright happy colour. There you go!! 🥰xxx

Hey! I've got one of those sitting in my shed...Never thought of doing that. LOL

Beautiful story. Getting old is difficult enough, but aging alone can be almost intolerable. A wonderful love story and her thoughts and conversation with her husband tugged at my heart. Thank you for sharing it. Have a gorgeous day and be well.

Thank you so much for your kindness and comments. I draw from my own feelings and how I believe my late husband is always with me. Matter of fact, I do have his truck still sitting outside...screaming for me to make it a flower bed. LOL

This is a lovely outpouring of love and memories from Sadie. She no longer feels alone for that precious period as her mind is cast back to happier times. The reference to the truck is skilfully done because it immediately conjures up to the reader a beautiful floral scene. And a superb conclusion with the return into the house, the breeze through the window resonating with his whisper and the final drift into sleep with his arms around her. Thanks for sharing, Carol. Take care Debbie

thank you, Debbie.... The truck, a Dodge Ram 1500, still sits in my yard, snuggled up against the bushes. I live in the contry and I often sit outside on the porch...and see him in his truck. I have thought about making it a flower bed and know what he'd be saying. LOL I appreciate the kind words and the review.

This is a very hopeful story. Although she has lost two loved ones, she can remember the best of what was in the past. It gives her heart solace as she talks to her husband and remembers the happiness of the past.

I love it! why weren't you eligible for the contest? Oh, I think I know. it's supposed to be ONLY dialogue. Well, it is a very lovely and heart felt piece, and cute too, showing the humor and affection between them.
Glad you were recognized. I enjoyed it !

I've not been eligible this month for a lot of the contests because I won first place once. So I write the challenge and then post it on my own. Same results, I guess. I so appreciate your kindness. Have a great day!

oh, right.
the same thing happened to me but I only got 2nd place.

Ah, this is so sweet and tender. Memories can be so real and as comforting as a favorite blanket.
One improvement for your fine short story.
At the doorway, she added -- Missing speech marks before At and after the comma.
"At the doorway," she added --
Lovely, my friend.
All my best,

Thanks for the lovely review and for your time. though I checked and At the doorway she added, (isn't speech) it's where she was standing before she talked. But thank you because I make those mistakes a lot when I am proofing.
Have a great day!

She used the entire back of the bed on the truck for a giant garden? Well, that's a unique tribute and use of something not being used but needed to be kept.
My brother had an old red pick-up that was sold after he passed away this year. I understand that the manager for the band The Beach Boys bought it.
As you've said, you're still "working through some stuff". I hope these short stories help you with that. I do enjoy reading them.

To be honest, I haven't done it yet, but my husbands 205 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup sits alongside a row of bushes and trees. It is the last tangible thing I have and I kow I should sell it, but I can't. So I said I was going to make it a flower bed. I saw one with a water fountain our of the grill but a flower bed would be better for me. LOL

I love the idea of his old truck being turned into a flower bed, Carol. This was a lovely nighttime solo chat with her man at the end of the day. It took me to when I sit in bed writing to my Tony each night, a journal conversation. You told this beautifully, Carol.
cheers,
valda

thank you, Valda. My husband's truck still sits in my yard, nestled against the bushes. I know I should have sold it, but its the last physical piece of him that I can touch now and then. I can sit on the porch and we can talk and reminisce. What a wonderful idea to have a journal for your thoughts to Tony. god bless!

I think we do what makes us feel good with our memories.

This is a sweet conversation! I can imagine how a widow misses her dear husband and they still have starlight chats and he still makes his presence known so that the nights are not so lonely.

Yes, I love sitting on the back deck staring at the stars and listening to the night sounds...unless of course the mosquitos decide to visit. I know he is with me all the time and I am blessed.

I enjoy reading the way you put your actual memories into brief little stories of heartfelt love. They always include a moment of tears, replaced with joy as the protagonist recalls and feels the warmth of deceased loved ones. I love the reassuring ending words, "I'm here."

Thanks, Lorraine. Each story, regardless of the genre, has a few pieces of me in it somewhere whether it's the sadness or the joy. I too love the ending words - "I'm here."
