Hi Wendy,
It's an awful thing to lose a cat... or any pet. I think we feel it just as much as the loss of a family member. Maybe even more.
In the last few years, we've had to put many of our pets down, and it never got easier. We've lost 5 cats and 2 dogs since 2012... cairn terriers Willie & Gracie, and cats... Max, Roger, Chico, Angel and Ray.
It was good of you to find the owner.
I'm a firm believer that we'll see our pets in Heaven. Why wouldn't we?
Nicely penned!

Thank you Kimbob. Yes, pets are God's creatures, and they fulfil the role He has given them. It is the hardest thing to lose a pet, and not many people understand the depth of grief one experiences. A lovely review!

Wendy, just how big is your heart! You never stop giving your all in everything you do, especially when it comes to people and animals.
This is a heartwarming story and I'm not surprised at the lengths you went to in order to endure Hugo was properly taken care of.
Thank you for sharing this with us all...

Thank you very much John. I would never just throw him away like rubbish, as some people would do. I knew he must be precious to someone and he was. I knew the owners a little so I was glad that they could say their farewells appropriately to poor Hugo, (and also that he came to our place, where he must have sensed all would be well). I appreciate your lovely review.

Wendy, if anyone would extend this effort and commit to giving Hugo a respectful burial if the owners could not be located, it would be you. I hold a special disdain for owners I have witnessed "toss" their pets in the trash. It always makes me wonder how much they ever cared for these sweet and innocent "family" members ~ for surely my pets have always been that, and I know yours have! I'm glad the owners were found and had the closure of knowing where Hugo passed. I am NOT surprised Hugo felt the love emanating from your house and was blessed to take his final breaths in your driveway...
You inspire me with every write!

Thank you for this beautiful review. I was very distressed and shocked to see him, but after I spoke with his owners (whom I knew a little) I felt glad he had come to us. Cats in particular prefer to die away from their home. He had always been much loved but they knew he was unwell, although I don't think they thought he would die. Yes, some people would have just thrown him away into the rubbish, but I could never do that. Thanks so much for this affirtming review.

Wendy,
I'm so sorry for you and the cat and his family.
Your sad poems brought tears to my eyes. What a kind gesture on your part!
Your kindness gave his death a purpose. Bless you for that.
Best wishes, Wendy

Thanks so much Cindy. I was glad to be able to return poor Hugo to those who loved him. I know some people would have simply thrown him away, leaving the owners to never know what happened. So, in restrospect, I was glad he came to us, once I got over the shock and initial distress at finding him. I appreciate your caring review.

The death of a pet is always sad, and they are missed, my mother had a marvellous philosophy, she sad, "They are only loaned to us for a short, love them while you can, and you will alert remember them", Elaine and I often talk about those quirky and divine gifts, and remember them with gratitude, well done, blessings Roy

You have such a big heart Wendy. It is always sad to lose our pets, they quickly become part of our lives, and I too think it is better that the family knew what happened than to wonder. A very emotional write, Wendy and well done. Cheers

Thank you, Valda! What a delight to receive six stars, and an honour too. Yes, I am glad I found the owners. I already knew them a little and they were very pleased to have Hugo back.

Your true personality is showing through again, Wendy, like it does in many of your posts. Many people would have grabbed the dead cat by the tail and given it a fling.

I suppose you are right, but I would never treat any animal that way. Thank you so much for reviewing, Paul. Much appreciated.

Such a good and decent thing you did for this poor animal, Wendy. I'm sure the family who he was a part of were very grateful to you.
It is sad to think that he died alone like that, but that seems to be many animal's choice. It's good to know that he's back with his family now and will receive a proper burial.
This was a beautifully-written little story.

Thank you for your lovely review. Yes, they often choose to leave home to die, and I think poor Hugo was heading for our garden to lie down under a bush, but didn't make it. The family were very grateful.

Thank you for caring and being such an awesome neighbor! You really are putting the Lord's command to love your neighbor literally with such concern for the whole family. I think cats like being alone when they die. My previous cat was only 8 dying of kidney failure when she tried to walk away into the street something she'd never do. We had to put her to sleep. I didn't want another pet for a long time after that. What a blessing you are in the neighborhood!

Yes, I think they do usually leave home to die privately. I think this one may have been trying to reach our garden. Our neighbours down the road (whom I already knew a little) were pleased to have him back, and to know. They will have given him a respectful burial as they have other loved pets as well. Now that the shock is over, I am pleased for Hugo to have chosen us, and not a place where he would have been just thrown away.
Thanks for a lovely review.

Very well done, all pets-animals deserve some love and understanding when they are ill or in this case have passed, and the family of Hugo though sad would be so grateful for the chance to say goodbye, very well written****kahpot
