Ciao !
I remember reading about Katrina and the catastrophic flooding.
I like that you mention the destruction of Pompei.
Now volcanologists are worried about i campi Flegrei which is a hidden volcano about 15 km from Napoli and 40 km from Pompei
The tremors are far more violent and frequent and in May 2024 there was a 4.4 earthquake near by.
About 360,000 people live in the red zone and 1.5 million in the surrounding area.
I want to speak up for Mother Nature.
We have exploited, abused polluted manipulated Mother Nature.
We don't respect Her. And SHE is fighting back.
In Ukraine warfare has polluted water, soil and air and its grains is contaminated with arsenic.
In the meantime our leaders expect us to be more eco/ green.

Thank you, tempeste, for sharing my poem and your comments. Yes, our abuse of Nature warrants payback from her.

Yes, I think nature reflects the sin that has been sown into her by human frailty, so much so, she behaves in the same erratic way we do, sometimes kind, sometimes ruthless and destructible, beautifully written poem, in abandoned rhyming, immaculate flow and articulation, well dine, blessings Roy

An excellent entry for the Write a Quatern contest. Very powerful poem about a very powerful monster known as Nature. You've done a great job using descriptive imagery in this piece. Good luck in the contest.

Yes, I do remember Katrine. Her vicious acts caused such devastation. Today the coat was hammered by a Cat 2 hurricane but fortunately it was not as damaging. Good luck. Ulla:)))

Thank you very much, Ulla. Yes, the Gulf Coast got hammered by another hurricane and New Orleans was swamped with water. Nature again proved she can be cruel.
Comment from Harry Craft
I really like this format of poetry. I don't write like this and I wish I could. I really enjoyed reading this poem because of the rhyming scheme and the reality of the poem itself. It is so true about cruel nature! Keep up the good work!

I like how the phrase Cruel monster Nature often is is the first line of stanza one ,the second of two, the third of three and the last of four.
The concept that Nature is indifferent to the concerns of Humanity is explicit in this poem, and the examples used Katrina, Vesuvius and Tornadoes in general are good choices as to illustrate the immense damage that Nature can cause.Children and wives are not exempt.towns are flattened lives are ripped into.Stanza two is particularly effective with an original manipulation of language-pompeians learned this very quick, for instance.Few ever heard the lavas hiss is brutal and evocative as if to say Nature has done its job and the people died before its job was finished.I think you have done well within this poetic form.Good luck in the contest.

a powerful and moving poem about natural diasters that seem to be getting worst because of climate change. I like the following lines
Cruel monster Nature often is
like when Katrina slammed ashore,
tore into levees, leveled homes,
caused damage like no storm before.

Author,
Nice quatrain poem!
Nature is sometimes ruthless as you write about so deftly.
I like that you added Pompeii; just recently frescos in renaissance style were found unearthed, though this tragedy happened 1500 years before the Renaissance.
Nicely done in Quatrain style.
Best wishes,
Cindy

Thank you, Cindy, for sharing and praising my Quatern. Years ago we had a Pompeii exhibit in one of our museums here in Chicago that was fascinating.

Some harsh realities about Nature and its powerful forces expressed here effectively in this Quatern-with reference to natural disasters past and present

Thank you very much, jessizero, for your kind words about my Quatern. There seems to be some controversy on site about whether Quatern should have a prescribed (ABAB) rhyme scheme. I say no.
