This is heartbreakingly beautiful. She went out on Disney. What could be sweeter. Why haven't they invented not only a cure for cancer, but preventatives as well? They started studying marajuana and had good showings. What happened with that?

Yes, it wasn't long after that evening, she took to her bed and, basically, starved herself to death. I think she was just too tired of fighting. Though I sat with her after, she was never coherent enough for conversation again. Cancer is not a pretty way to go. Cancer care is a moneymaker~I think many things could be cured, but then all the industries built up around disease would become obsolete. Thanks so much for the review!

that with all the money and years spent on cancer resaerch that there is no cure. Humongous strides have been made everywhere else. I call fowl! Karen

Author m,
This is a poignant poem about the struggle your mom and you experienced. I know it's difficult to see a loved one, once vibrant, suffer from the ravages of cancer.
I'm sorry you experienced this sadness. But, your last stanza is very precious.
Just a suggestion: you might want to classify this poem as "non-fiction poetry."
Nonetheless it's really great work.
Best wishes,
Cindy

This is such a poignant free verse! As a retired RN, a two time breast cancer survivor, and a daughter who lost my mom at 60, I feel you.
No matter are age, when we lose our mom we feel like an orphan.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

This was such a wonderful and sad poem about a precious memory. I'm guessing it's free verse. I am so sorry this has happened to you and your family. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

I'm sorry for your loss. Your poem beautifully shares the heartache of facing facing a loved one's illness. You do so with such honesty. I loved how you captured the special moments - like sharing a Disney movie. This is a powerful poem. It is so moving to read.

I lost my Mom to cancer (her third time around) and I so miss our daily talks, her smile, and mostly her love. On the day of I left her gravesite as I climbed into my car a song, "Everything's going to be alright" was on the radio. Now every time I hear it, I think she is talking to me. Beautiful poem with wonderful memories.

Thank you so much! I'm sorry for your loss. I had a similar experience, after visiting her crypt and leaving a rose, the song playing on the radio as I left was "Kiss From a Rose" and I think it's a hello from her whenever I hear it. Blessings!

An excellent entry for the Precious Memory contest. This is so lovely and brought to mind my own experience just over a year ago with my mother. Those final moments of clarity with them were so very special and ones we will remember forever. I wish you good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much! Sadly, she passed away not long after, but I have many wonderful memories of her.
