This is so true. Your verse is excellent in thought and theme. I like how the last line catches us off guard and we have to pause to 'get it'. Well done Bill!!

Yes, people will often fall short of what we expect of them. I guess that the short and long of it. I've known a few to fall short for a very long time but maybe not always. Nice Haiku or 5-7-5.

I like your word play about being "short" but "not very long." I have the "short" problem but more vertically than time-length-wise. It's funny how one refers to shortage and the other to time.
