Well done on your contest placing, Patrick! This free verse is elegantly expressed in praise of the emergency services. I don't know if you've ever had the experience of being in need of these titans but your emotion behind the words is palpable. Thank you for sharing. Debbie

Hi Debbie! I have no idea why I didn't answer this one when I did the other two! They came in about the same time! Oh well, gives us another chance to have a cuppa! You know, I lived in Aussie for seven years, so I know what that is. 99% of Americans hear that, and they would be like, what? 😂 Again, I appreciate you stopping by! I have you on my list for some reviews coming up very soon!

As an RN of thirty-five years I thank you for this...
I join you in thanking each of the other professions/callings as well.
There have been microseconds when I knew someone's life was in my hands.
At that "now" instant I saw the trusting eyes searing my soul and strengthening my resolve.
It's been an honor!

Hi Patrick
This is a well done free verse out that gives thanks where is is due. I do agree that first responders and our military can never be thanked enough for what they do for us.
Congrats on placing third in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a great day.

What a wonderful poem in tribute to all of the amazing emergency service personnel who go above and beyond each and every day. Hero's that we cannot thank enough for their duties. Beautiful words chosen to capture your appreciation.
Well done and best of luck

Bravo! What an outstanding tribute to those who put their lives on the line for each of us and never question it. We need to stand tall and even if we can't run the front lines, we should be there to support them at all times.

Yeah, I agree. There are too many times that all of us forget about how we might live (or not) without all the everyday heroes.

I thought your poem beautifully shares heroism. The imagery is powerful. What stood out to me was the titan standing firm amid sorrow. That is so powerful. You do a wonderful job of sharing the extraordinary nature of those who rise to the occasion when needed most.

It all comes down to your last two lines: How many of us will witness tomorrow because you grow heroic in times of trouble?
I was reminded of the firemen of 9/11, the law enforcement who enter mass shooting situations, the doctors and nurses of Covid times . . . Because of them we live on.
It makes me so happy when these heroes are given their due, before they "shrink back and blend anew".
Well done, Patrick. I enjoyed your free verse and wish you luck in the contest.
