Congratulations on your first milestone post. You're very brave trying a contest right away. I retired a few years ago from a school where my first graders often took care of their mothers and their younger siblings. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it. I know sadly many mothers are not well enough to care for their children.

Welcome! All of the kids we know can't wait for the weekends, holidays, and summer break. What a wonderfully written poem. Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day, and God bless.

This is a raw, sad, yet beautiful too. The word choices draw the reader in. The lines flow well, carrying the reader along with ease. The emotions are palpable and create empathy in the reader. Welcome to the site.

Ohh, a mentally ill mother would be absolutely terrible. I wouldn't wish that in anybody.
I enjoyed the insight this poem provided on something I had not contemplated before.
Nicely done!

Thank you so much for reading my poem. Yes, a mentally ill mother was very traumatic. I appreciate your commenting.

Congrats on your first post! Well done! This poem is deeply moving. You share the the complex emotions of a child during a difficult time with family life. The repetition of daily routines adds to the weight of the emotional experience. For me I felt the heaviness of each day. I thought this was a touching and heartfelt poem. Beautifully written!

This is a sad poem about a child living with a Mother like this as you say there is no escape or choice for a 10 year old. Your poem is touching and well rhymed and I welcome you to Fanstory Jeanette, love Dolly x
