Greetings Jess! (Port Raid Review #3)

This was the next one in your portfolio that I have not reviewed yet as I venture back in time through your portfolio. I am doing my best to instill a new philosophy at FanStory to do right by one's favorites and venture deeper into their past posts, to give the love that is deserved to great work that is not promoted. I have a handful of friends on the site that I have committed to doing this for, and adding you to this short list was a no-brainer (Raooock! No-brainer!) <---that was Pookie.

I won't be able to bore you to tears with the length of this review. This short poem sends it's message loud and clear to anyone who is or has been a parent and remembers when it's time to send the little ones back to school (Something like: Oh, sweet silence, my time is now mine again for the next seven hours! Been there, done that, put 14 spit-up bibs in the washer, and spent $100 on school supplies for each child because the school budget could't afford to have the teacher buy the Kleenexes and glue sticks.)

I love how you turn the bus driver into a "gallant" white knight, driving up to save the day, to take your child to relative safety while you reconfigure your sanity. Sharp and clever expression, as expected from you!

This is the end of your Port Raid! I thoroughly enjoyed my time visiting you! I shall now head to other ports, but I have you on my maps and charts and shall return again soon! Keep your lighthouse beacon lit, the bird poop off the Sylvia Plath statue, and a bottle of your best wine at the pub for me! Take care!

Eyepatch Patrick (and Pookie)

These school buses are essential in the US as schools are often a long way from home. We have no school buses in England. A hero indeed, I enjoyed your tribute to the school bus drivers. Love Dolly x

This 5-7-5, One Stop at a Time, has the proper formatting and pictures the yellow bus as the golden warrior that bends down to rescue all from the bus stop and carry them to the magic castle.

LOL! Aren't we all! Hooray for those brave and patient bus drivers who daily deal with the chaos kids can create. My special needs granddaughter has put at least one driver into early retirement! Having, as a teacher, ridden buses often for field trips, I have seen many who go above and beyond to get kids where they need to be and I say thank you and more power to them! Great poem!

Yes, Mom. We know. The kids think how wonderful and gallant that driver is, taking them back to their beloved school that they've sorely missed all summer. A hero indeed to all those kids.

Loved this sardonic shortie!

a nice tribute to the unsung heroes of our life, the bus drivers, who take our children safely to and from school in all sorts of weather, watching the kids.

Jessica, you are such a tease. Your poem is such a quaint way of describing the first day of school, riding on a yellow bus. Well-written, 3-line poem. All the best for the contest.

Charming whimsy i this. Indeed, a school bus driver is sort of a warrior in his own way, dealing with all the children and also a hero for the mom's, giving them respite! I enjoyed the twist in this. It works best with the attached picture, as otherwise it might take a moment for the reader to get it.

Warmly,
rd

I remember sitting on my porch listening to the sound of the school bus as it pulled down our road. Sweetest sound ever. I can understand the excitement your "children" feel about this time of year. Mine were equally excited. Wink, wink. This was a very humorous poem. Gretchen
