Hmm, a curious story. I do wonder if a prison is always a den of evil, where rape, theft, and unspeakable acts are always common. Also, wouldn't it make more sense if Sam was the Warden, and not a low level Sergent?

Prison is not a nice place, the people that we deem to be evil live there. Sergeants have more influence over employees and inmates than a warden in his office.

You're right it is not a nice place. Just saying, I've worked in prisons for over twenty years now. No, sergeants do not / not even close. That is TV stuff/ "Prison Break" was horrible fiction. But, it's your story. Good luck.
